R1200 Heaven

I've had a lot of bikes ove the years. The ones in my sig are in the last 18 months. I like fixing em and getting em back into service. This R1200RT I recently picked up does nothing but impress me the more I ride it.

I was home alone on a week-end and looked up gumtree for a joyride and picked this one. Worst joyride ever. 15 PSI in the tyres, 18month old fuel in the tank and he swapped the battery without cycling the throttle. Ran like a dog.

I made a lowball offer and went home disappointed

A week or more later he rings and is going off shore and accepts my offer. What do you do. Dig up the $5K and go get it. Pump the tyres, reset the computer cycle the fuel and WOW, what a bike. Under 70K Kms, the fuel strip is stuffed but I like it the more I ride it.

The shocks are toast, either bouncy bouncy or bang bang, dual mode shocks by the looks so RAD shocks can rebuild them for me eventually but the seat is awful. I can only last an hour in it, I get 4 hours out of the 1100 seat easy

I have found John Moorhouse from ergo seats is still working, and he says he will fix it while we are away on holidays. This one is a keeper, I'm just so impressed I had to vent.

It doesn't seem much heavier that the 98 ST2 ducati I had. I like it.

Re: R1200 Heaven

Sounds like a great buy. Remember test riding either an 06 or 07 R1200RT when my LT was getting a service way back. If I hadn't bought the LT for 2-up riding I would have loved the RT as a solo bike. Enjoy!

Re: R1200 Heaven

It's way better than the 1100 in every way, It's a keeper. I got the seat over to John Moorhouse on Friday. He's going to replace the foam, re-sculpt the seat to be wider at the rear and change the overall slope while reusing the existing cover for $180. Very reasonable. I get the feeling he's done a lot of them

But the bikes are locked away now, the bags are almost packed, and it's off to the airport early Tuesday morning for a 22 hour trip to New York

John has done two seats for me. Great work. You will be very happy with the outcome

Re: R1200 Heaven

Flew back into town very early this morning, picked up the seat around noon and it's looking good.

Plus a GS-911 was waiting for me at my NY hotel to carry home thanks to Ted at the beemershop.

I just need a couple of days sleep to get back on local time
