DRIVER FLOOR BOARDS
|
| |
Does anyone have any first hand knowlege or opinion on driver floor boards like the ones advertised in all of the magazines? I have been looking at the units made by ILIUM WORKS but at 450.00 I thought it might be wise to ask the group.

I had a set put on at CCR last year. I ended up having to take them off just as quick. The problem for me was that they would scrape the ground on any little
corner. I don't think they will work for anyone in the 300 lb range. I think if you
were of less weight they would be fine
I did love the looks of them though (Ilium Works).
BTW...Tina @ motolights was nice enough to take them back after I scraped them
going out of the parking lot

Ed's right about them scraping. I've had mine (Ilium works) on for about 9 months. They really make a difference on the long rides for my 6'4"+ frame. I'm not as agressive as I used to be in the curves so I don't worry about the scraping too much YMMV. They're very well made, but the foot positon takes a little getting used to. I still put my feet up on the mounts when braking and shifting out of habit.
The biggest plus for me was after I put them on, my feet were no longer tired after a long (16+ hour) ride. The full support of the the floor boards took care of that.

Gary,
Could you post a picture of the floorboards mounted?

Stuart,
You might want to go to the Classified section and look at the post by Huff..."2000 K1200LTC for sale". He has floorboards on his and has a nice picture of them on the post. You might also PM him and get his impressions of them.

I went to Ilium's web site and viewed their pictures.
They look very nice.
I am not agressive in twisties, more straight line rider.
And no where near the 300 pound range...285 - 290 maybe!
Hope more post about their opinion.

Stuart - I sat on a bike at lat summer's International MOA Rally - that was at the display for Illium Floor Boards. They were very comfortable just sitting there on the bike - and as stated by others, appear to be very well made. The one thing I didn't like was that they seem to be too wide for the foot brake. I asked them about this and if they made an adapter to bring the brake lever out a bit - They responded that they had heard that from others, but did not currently have an extension for the brake. I'd be interested to hear from those who have them, if they notice any real problem with the position of the boards to the shift and/or brake levers.

I have had mine (Illium) for about a year now and like them a lot. It does take a bit if getting used to because the brake is not where you expect it to be with the floor boards, but I got it down in a day or two. Very comfortable on longer rides.
Trust in God alone.

I like mind, as stated before a little getting used too! But no problems, I did feel as if the board did rub a couple of times, however I can not find a scratch on them, Now I believe it was the center stand part!
And if you have ever caught you pants leg on the peg and lost balance and dropped it... no more with the floor board.
The braking is not a problem, I use the hand brake (intergrated 02) more now than foot brake.

I've had the floor boards on for several months now. I really love them on long trips. I am over 300# and 6'4" tall, so the lower foot position is much more comfortable. Toe dragging in corners happens, but not too bad. My live has become less of a race as I have gotten older, so it is not an issue for me anyway.
