Re: charcoal canister
When the Canister plugs up with fuel it causes a vacuum in the fuel tank. When you remove the line from the tank to the canister you are "Venting" the fuel tank into the air so little to no chance if a "Vacuum" issue . You plug the vacuum line from the canister to the engine to keep the engine from having a vacuum leak.

Re: charcoal canister
Lenny, as a point of information.. I was on a weekend trip with 2 other LT's in Wisconsin last week and one of my buddies told us that his bike kept stalling just after a fillup. He went on to say unless he kept some rpm's it would stall at a lite. SO>>> after our day ride I did the casisterectomy in the hotel parking lot !! I am sure this has been said before, but once you are in there just find the line that vents overboard and connect the line from the tank to that so excess fuel can still find a place to exit for safety. and then the line on the left side that pulls vacuum needs plugged.. Use a golf tee, screw.. or something that will not leak and tape it over for good measure.. DONE.. Next day.. no more complaints or concerns of stalling from my buddy ! Bill

It traps fuel vapors and they get sucked back into the engine when you start it. Helps with air pollution in cities from evaporating gas from tanks of cards and bikes sitting in the sun. Mostly all cars have these and many bikes - also in Europe. The problem is that it was added as a bit of an afterthought on the LT and it sits a bit too low so it can clog up when you overfill the tank and the liquid gets in there. Just don't overfill the tank and you don't have to worry about it. |
