Brad,
Thanks for your post. Had a weekend ride to Couldersport & the Wellsboro area earlier this year and really enjoyed the scenery. Even bought a painting at one of the studios and had it shipped home.

I'll study your info and plan a couple of trips for 2010!

Thanks Paul! Feedback on the routes is always appreciated ! The closest one to you would be the Allegheny Plateau tour.

Re: Pennsylvania Motorcycle Touring

Looks like a good ride. I assume Elk rut season is in the fall?
Want to keep clear of those guys. We have enough with the deer this time of year.

Re: Pennsylvania Motorcycle Touring

Don't forget to include Rt 125 for more fun in the twisties.

Also, for more straight line riding, but off the beaten path. Try 225 from Dauphin to Tower City. Then, if you wish, take 209 from Tower City to Millersburg.

We are planning a "Family ride" this year which will include putting the bikes on the Millersburg ferry to get them across the river.

Re: Pennsylvania Motorcycle Touring

I will try to incorporate that road (SR 4002?) into a route next year - it looks like fun on the map. Thanks for the tip Pete !

Re: Pennsylvania Motorcycle Touring

We will try some of these also.

Tracus and I have run portions of these as we often blast off on a run.

Tracus has one for Sunday, a 300 mile leisure 7 hour, keeping us out of the deep woods because of the Horned Rat Season about to open on Monday and every one tromping around.

He should chime in But we have been on a Veterans Memorial Highway or Purple Heart run or portions that were great.

Sounds like we have enough people within a 100 miles, we should try some PA runs.

Living in Dauphin County there is some very fine riding within a short distance, going in any direction.

Re: Pennsylvania Motorcycle Touring

Brad, is there any way you could indicate what part of PA the ride is in? A designation of north-northeast-northwest-central-south-southeast-southwest would be most helpful.

Bob

A very good suggestion - I will work on that....the Word Press page editor is a real bear for me - but I will get on that because it would make it easier to navigate.

Hi Brad,
I have been looking over your rides and it has given me some ideas for this summer. I am travelling form Newfoundland, Canada to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway. Any suggestions you have for me getting there would be fantastic. I will be trying some of the roads you suggested in PA.
Thanks,
Kelly

Kelly

What kind of time to plan to make and where do you think you will enter Pa ?

For example - if you were to say you could spare a full, comfortable day (8 hrs saddle time) and you planned to enter Pa from the middle I would suggest you chart a course that would take you on the following

Enter on US15 near Corning, NY
Pa 287
Pa 414
Pa 44
Pa 664
Pa 64 (at Lock haven)
Pa 445
Pa 192
Pa 45 (at Boalsburg)
Pa 26 -> for 100 miles all the way to the Md state line

From there I would head W on 68 to US220 (this road sucks for the first 15 miles until you clear Cumberland,Md) head south into WV, pick-up US33 E to I81

...just off the top of my head !

Re: Pennsylvania Motorcycle Touring

Hi Brad,
I would hate to see what you could do if you had time! I had a look at the map and this looks quite good. Some overlay the roads you mentioned in your blog. I have a friend in Grafton, WV (near Fairmont). This is the reason I am coming back. I got a taste and want more.
In 2010, I did a cross-country tour and visited Grafton, WV, on the way back. I took #250 WV south to Fairmont. What a road! Deer, deer, deer! On the way home, I worked my way northeast throug PA through Scranon, on to Albany, across #9, #4, to the east coast and home.
I purchased my bike from Don Sidler, MN, (sr. member) in 2008 and I can't get enough..I love it!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kelly

Re: Pennsylvania Motorcycle Touring

Kelly

Yes - WV is awesome ! (better than Pa actually)

If you are headed to Fairmont I would take US220 to US50. But remember that I told you how US220 really blows until you get several miles outside of Cumberland.

Enjoy your trip !!
