Re: How'd you like to come across this in the woods?

A true pussycat compared to these bad boys that roam around my back yard just about every night...

Very docile MOST of the time and quite frankly the babies are cuter then hell. Just don't piss off Momma or you'll be dead meat. They can jump 30 feet horizontally at full gallop and hit top speeds of 25 mph. The bite can crunch through bones like a bolt cutter through buttah.

...and then there's the smell - WHEW!

Wow. I would never, ever want to see that out in the wild. At first glance it looked like a guy with a good mask and a gray cotton sheet wrapped him or something.

Yikes.

So, the man-pee keeps the bobcats away but doesn't deter the wild pigs?

Although they look like pigs, Javelina are in the Peccary family. Not as good to eat, and can be very dangerous especially in groups. They are all over the Southwest. If they were good for sausage, I'd have a freezer full.

But whatever that original post was, I'd keep my distance, that's scary.

It does tie the two threads together...

But I was also a little bit serious, that's why I didn't use an emoticon. It sounds like the scent of human urine doesn't deter the newer visitors from Ron's yard.

According to www.Predatorpee.com:

In the wild, the relationship between predator and prey defines the daily routine of virtually every animal alive whether it is in your backyard or the deepest wilderness. The predator marks its territory with urine and stalks its prey. Members of like species recognize the urine scent triggering instictive behavior related to territorial dominance. That is why PredatorPee works so well for training cats and dogs where to "go." In addition, prey like deer, mice, squirrels etc. react to the marking scent of their predators by seeking to avoid those predators at all costs. It is the law of the wild. In this life and death game of hide and seek, the scent of urine is often the only warning a prey has that a predator is nearby. PredatorPee puts that instinct to work for you in your yard and garden.

I've personally used www.RonKMillerpee over the wall in my backyard but never on the unwalled sides or front yard. Bobcats having incredible jumping ability and the 8 feet or so from the ground to the top of my wall is a piece of cake for them. My backyard opens up to a large, open natural area and dry wash (river bed) where wild animals roam all the time. My main concern is that when I BBQ Salmon the lingering scent is a huge attraction for them. If one decided to check out the grill when my poodle is back there.... I would have a VERY unhappy wife. The Javelina tend to travel up and down the sides between houses, and that's where I see them frequently. They also walk up and down the sidewalk and HAVE attacked several neighbors with dogs - which they consider predators. One neighbor was seriously bitten last year and had to go through rabies shots as a precaution. I carry a concealed pistol when I walk my dog although my shotgun would be preferred. My neighbors probably would not approve of that, even though I am designated by the Sheriff's Department as the Neighborhood Watch goombah.

I've also used www.RonKMillerpee climbing in the Rockies at high altitude where Yellow Bellied Marmots (commonly known as Whistle Pigs) will tear a tent, backpack and whatever into shreds looking for human food. I've never had one trash my base camp - where it could turn into a deadly situation during a sudden storm - by not having shelter.

Although my technical rock climbing days are long over I do spend a lot of time hiking in the high, remote mountain ranges of Arizona, but stay in a hard sided folding camper since it is so darn comfortable. Bears, Mountain Lions and most importantly Skunks are around. www.RonKMillerpee has worked well since I've smelled skunks but rarely see one in my camp. Skunks are highly intelligent. I've NEVER seen a bear or mountain lion in the vicinity.

The only real problem with www.RonKMillerpee is that you need to dose frequently for it to be effective. Urine breaks down rapidly in sunlight and especially warm temperatures so the scent warning is temporary at best, losing efficacy within 48 hours.

Man is the ultimate predator - and animals are very wary of us. If you give them warning - either verbally, visually or most importantly by scent (since their noses can be up to 25,000 times more sensitive than ours) - they will almost always avoid us. While I can't pee climbing up a mountain my wife and I do wear "Bear Bells" (which is nothing more than a metal jingle bell) on our backpacks to give advance warning that humans are coming.

Gee, I knew one day I would get a chance to put my Biochemistry degree to good use...

Re: How'd you like to come across this in the woods?

Excellent discussion, Ron; thanks.

Funny thing is, I have a favorite "spot" behind my barn that I usually hit after work. For the past year or so when I get home I'll park the bike, hang up all the gear, and before walking up to the house I mark my territory. This may, in fact, explain why I have seen so few deer this year on my property.

I am at a loss, however, to understand why I couldn't find a valid web site www.RonKMillerpee?
