A better headlight bulb?
My two low beam headlight bulbs burned out within a week of each other. A month or so later the right one went again. The high beam has not gone out yet. This is on an 07 R1200RT. I used NAPA supplied bulbs, $8.00, about half the cost of the Sylvania bulb, but not worth it if this keeps up. It is possible I got a bad bulb. Does anyone know of a better (longer life span) bulb out there? I carry a spare, but I just put it in. I would like to know if anything is better before I buy another one.
After replacing 3 bulbs in a few months, it's an easy process now. Thanks Mick F |

Three letters: HID.

HID conversion. Very worthwhile for low beams.

Re: A better headlight bulb?
Mick
I have purchased two GE H7-55 bulbs from WalMart for $9 each. The original bulbs were replaced between 15K-18K miles. Ruby now has 36.5K miles on her. IMHO I think you got a bad bulb. Make sure you DO NOT touch the bulb itself when replacing it. That will kill it for sure. Good luck. ![]()

Re: A better headlight bulb?
I swear, I never touched it!
I think you are right about the bad bulb, I could see the broken wire inside. I will stop at the local Wall Mart near me, also near the NH State Liquor Store, very convenient. Thanks Keith. I did check out the other site with the long lasting bulb, about $30.00 each with shipping. Mick |
