Re: BMW R1200 RT -P solo seat replacement to double seat

Welcome,

It is absolutely possible, but not inexpensive... I made the same conversion on a '99 R1100RT. It cost me almost $375 in used parts, and I consider myself lucky. U used kit would have been over $400 plus shipping.

An R1200RT-P will likely cost more because the bike is newer. But you won't regret the conversion. My wife loves to ride with me and is considering taking the MSF herself and getting a bike.

Your best bet is probably to try to locate the necessary parts on craigslist and ebay, and make inquiries here and other BMW forums for members who own the 2-seat variety and may be parting out a wrecked bike...

Also try Beemerboneyard.com

Good luck on your search, and when you do the conversion, please document the process and post the photo essay here to help others in the future. I know there is a pictoral available for my model bike, but have never seen a how-to pictorial for the R1200RT.

Thanks for your comments ,I have had no luck with locating a R1200 RT wreck any where in Australia yet , but I guess the best start is as you have suggested find what actual part no's that are required to do the job .I think I can get this from my BMW dealer then begin a serious search from there

Hi, It is a bit of a task to get all the pieces at the right price but if your patient it is easy enough to do. I got most of my parts from either ebay or motorworks in the UK. The guys at motorworks know their stuff and sell most of it as a kit. I think I ended up paying for the whole box and dice including pannier repaint about $1800.
