Hex ezcan on 2017 RT

I"m trying to find where to plug in hex ezcan into the canbus system on my 2017 RT. Has anyone done it and can you show/tell me where to plug in at?

Thanks, Steve

Re: Hex ezcan on 2017 RT

Have a look at my earlier post "actual location of can bus on 2014 RT". I included some pictures of the location and what the unit (black box" looks like. I don't know about the 2017 but doubt it has changed locations.

If it isn't documented... it didn't happen.

Update - the Support department for ezcan finally got back to me. On the 2017 RT, there is no box that you unplug from. Instead there is a plug zip tied to the wire going to the rear lights with a white tag on it that says RDC. You simply plug the ezcan into this. It's very simple once you realize that their installation instructions do no apply to the 2017.

Good information for you lucky 17 owners!

I guess we can not assume anything on the 17 will be the same as 14,15,16's.

RDC moved, updated.

GS-911 needs an adapter and new software to run on it.

Interesting to see what other differences we will see.

You do need the $30 adapter cable....but the GS911 does not yet work on the 2017 RT. It has different controllers and when you go to reset the service reminders, you get a fault stating "The controller is wrong for this motorcycle"

We will have to wait until they provide the updated software for these new controllers. I guess it has to do with the EU4 functions.

Gottcha.

It is what I meant "by adapter and new software to run on it". I conveyed it wrong.

There seems to be a lot going on with the 17 other than the anti shudder, new shaft, new bearing and new shifting arms.

I guess what surprises me is the change of the diagnostic port. I can not think of any reason for them to do this to every dealer in the world that has to have the mother ship's computer.

I can not see anything that E4 Standard would dictate this?

And after I think about this does the OP even have TPS? That would explain no RDC unit

So maybe this is not a change but a non equipped issue

I think EU4 (or EU5?) mandates a standard OBDII diagnostic connector??
Which might make it possible to use a standard auto OBDII tool in the bike.

Re: Hex ezcan on 2017 RT

Sattwood 1633 - thanks for that update.

Have you tried it and does it work?

I assumed that the EZcan plugged 'in line between the wiring and the 'box' but if you are only plugging into 'one side', there will be a spare plug on the EZcan not connected to anything.

Just checking as I get my 17 RT in June and the EZcan is on the list!

Thank you for that it makes sense now.

That would be nice if in fact a OBDII works I have one for my car off my cell phone and it is pretty cool. I use Torque Pro I think for the App.

Of course I have a GS-911 so moot for me but may be good for others.

We need Sattwood 1633 to let us know if he has TPS. I can see no reason why there is a cable marked RDC just laying there. It should be connected to a RDC unit or he does not have Tire Pressure System.

Or they have implemented another way to do TPS?

I guess either he or you will enlighten us as to what is going on.

I suspect that the RDC connector is a standard part of the main wiring harness, present on every wethead, regardless of whether it has a TPMS or not. Just as my '06 has connectors for an aux power outlet and (I think) an alarm system that I do not have. At least, the RTW parts fiche does not show a different main wiring harness or auxiliary cable for units with tire pressure monitors.

Sorry for the delay, I don't have TPS, perhaps that's why there is no box. The cable is simply zip tied very close to the rear light. Once I plugged the ezcan into it - all worked as designed.

Cool thanks for letting us know.

I am sure it would be on the main harness, just could not figure put why it was just sitting there. Then I had a profound revelation that maybe your bike was not equipped with a RDC unit.

Not everyone buys a loaded up bike. Although the dealers try their hardest to make it happen

My SO's Father has a 16 with nothing on it and loves it to death. Of course he has been riding BMW for 60 years and is a retired Motorcycle Policeman so his taste in bikes is less is more. 81 and rides just about every day. His wife really kicks him out and tells him to take a ride!

Enjoy that '17! I've had mine since February and I'm still in that phase that if I'm home and not riding it, I'm out in the garage looking at it.
