2016 RT pricing.

I'm finally going to upgrade from my 2002 RT. One dealer is offering a demo model with 300 miles all the options for $19000 OTD or a 0 mile for $19904 OTD. I also found a 2016 with 9000 miles and a top box for $16700. To me the demo sound like the best deal all things considered. Any thoughts? Since I plan to keep the bike for 10 years like my 2002 I am going to pony up for a waterhead instead of a less expensive camhead.

Re: 2016 RT pricing.

Depends on what OTD means depending on your local tax rate (which is non-negotiable) and is different from state to state.

The used '16 with 9000 miles and top case sounds like the best value but again it depends on taxes when comparing to the other bike prices. Another factor on the used or demo bikes is when the OEM warranty expires.

Anyway, if you're going to keep the bike 10 years you should seriously consider an extended service plan for the maximum term for whichever bike you end up buying, so if you buy new or demo you might want that as part of the deal if the dealer has a plan. Or you could also wait until just before the warranty ends to buy a plan. My 2c.

Regardless, the '16 RT is a fantastic bike that you'll enjoy for years!

Re: 2016 RT pricing.

Can't help you on the 2016 model year but I bought a 2014 last July (2016) that had only 1500 miles for $16,500 from a dealer. It had all options except the Central Locking and Shift Assist. It also had the NAV 4 and an Ilium crash bar with highway pegs as options. Never dropped - not a scratch and I got all the original paperwork including the boxes the NAV 4 came in. Still has about 9 months left on the factory warranty but I will look into 1-2 year extension if not too pricey.

I think there is virtually no difference between the '14-'16 models except paint choices and keyless ride option so getting one with low miles and warranty might be a key factor rather than model year. I don't thing the depreciation on a bike is the same as a car so I didn't even consider that and since you plan on keeping yours awhile, it would be a moot point for you too.

I would check the usual places: eBay, Cycle Trader and Craig's List. Beware Cycle Trader ads from dealers: Unlike cars, they do not always give you the OTD price online so the price posted could be $500-1500 more than what they post online. I would make sure I get a written price before even going to look at the bike. I like the service departments of most dealers but their sales and business practices can be downright crooked. Don't ask me how I know.

Re: 2016 RT pricing.

I paid $18.6 for my '14 (which I bought new on 12/31), so $19K for an essentially new '16 OTD sounds like a solid deal to me, assuming it has some or all factory options. I got a Nav 5 thrown in, so that sorta clinched the deal at the time. But that was two years ago, and I am sure list prices have gone up some.

BTW, what package do the two newer bikes have? (e.g. - hill start, clutchless shifting, etc...)

If you can swing the new one or the 300 mile demo, go for it. I'd skip the one with 9,000 miles on it. YMMV.

Re: 2016 RT pricing.

Just upgraded my 08 RT for a 16 RT WC with all the options except radio (comfort, touring, dynamic packages, keyless, gear shift assist) for CDN $23,596 before tax (USD 17,993). I also got a very fair price for my 08. In total the new bike price was reduced by $3,000 and I saved an additional @$1,100 on tax due to trade in value (its a Canadian thing!) making a total savings of CDN 4,100. Right now many of the dealerships are offering great deals on 2016s to clear the inventory. As others have mentioned, not much difference b/w 2014s-2017s so its a great time to buy previous yr's inventory. Looking forward to the start of the season!

Re: 2016 RT pricing.

Was it a BMW dealer or National Powersport? They bought out Second Wind BMW in Merrimack and had a few new bikes in inventory.

I thought I was their last BMW sale - I was told my bike was shipped up from NJ (early Dec) so it wasn't in stock.

18k isn't a bad price, but I have read (in another forum) of somebody getting a '16 RT fully optioned, and with the large top-box, at a touch over 18k...OUT THE DOOR!

Re: 2016 RT pricing.

If the top box is a must have for you (my wife wouldn't ride with me otherwise and we travel quite a bit on the bike) then I would consider the used bike with 9k miles on it. These top boxes are quite pricey.

Re: 2016 RT pricing.

OK - yes correct - Powersports has dropped BMW... so I'll be heading to Max (already ordered some stuff).

I'm more than a little ticked that Second Wind took my order knowing they were out the door within two weeks.

Delivery and follow up on my bike were very sloppy.

And MaxBMW has been nothing but great to me over the years.

I bought a 2016 in Platinum Bronze last night at Max.

Even though I'm moving to Southern California in 2 weeks, the price was good enough that its still a great deal when you factor in the shipping.
