2017 R1200RT color

I was hoping for the 2016 British red. But, as usual, the new R1200RT colors are disappointing -- alpine white and carbon black metallic. Ebony Metallic and San Marino Blue Metallic are no longer available. Platinum Bronze Metallic remains in the program.

Always wanted a white bike, for some reason. Looks good on the RT.

Re: 2017 R1200RT color

If BMW wanted a white R1200RT it could at least have chosen something elegant, like Dover white (see photo), and not the refrigerator-like Alpine white. Disappointing.

Agreed, a "vintage" white would suite the RT better. But, still, much better than that crazy San Marino Blue Metallic!

I think the BMW color design team is just a depressed bunch of folks...they just seem unable to select colors with any pizzaz.

Black and white are NOT colours.
Give your customers some colours PLEASE!

I do like the UK 'Iconic' Red, but I don't like the price tag that accompanies it!

Re: 2017 R1200RT color

While I have the color I want BMW is not alone in piss poor color options. Yamaha FJR and many other bikes suffer from this.

Not sure what it is with bike colors and how a company decides what color it will use in any given year?

Unless the RT is going to get a new generation in 2018 or 2019?

According to the Press release it seems to me they are working on the transmission which I suspect is to smooth out Shift Pro?

I also see Shift Pro as a prelude to paddle shifters and DCT clutch technology?

Back on topic: I got the color I wanted

Re: 2017 R1200RT color

Benefit of a white RT: People think you are the police. Especially if you have appropriate riding gear. Amazing how polite people can be

BMW must have purchased millions of gallons of Platinum Bronze Metallic they are trying to get rid of. That color was used on the cars starting about 2010. I had an X5 in that color. Depending on the light it changes colors dramatically, anywhere from silvery to golden.

BTW: I really like the San Marino Blue. Just not enough to replace my 2011 Polar Metallic. A GSA in that color would be fantastic.

My car (2014 535d) is Carbon Black Metallic. Its an interesting color. It looks black in some light, but blue in others.

Apparently in the past, every time they offer black in the RT the next year there is a model change. Read that on another forum

Carbon Black Metallic has similarities to Ebony Black Metallic. Both look black at certain light levels and viewing angles. With brighter light at different angles, Ebony has undertones of red, Carbon has undertones of blue. Ebony has been available since the introduction of the Wethead, so either the poster on the other forum is mistaken or BMW considers neither color to be a true black. I'm expecting a minor facelift around 2018, before a major redesign around 2022-2023.

Would have been nice if they had made the 2016 iconic special edition color available for the 2017 RT, I'd have jump on that in a heartbeat! I love that color! Painted top case and all.

Ah, but, Great Britain was also referred to as England generally - a good few years back.

I too think that is the nicest colour BMW have put out on a bike for a very long time.
Even if it didn't have the black highlights, that red would have been good.

It's different, that's for sure. Look at the aircraft in WWII. That is a good example of the differences.

I thought British racing colors was green and Italian was red?

Maybe this is to make the quick shifter smoother in 1st and 2nd. I'm envious of the cornering ABS.

Re: 2017 R1200RT color

Alpine White looks great on my 328 but makes the RT look like a utilitarian cop bike. I don't think they'll sell many but who knows.

I think you could add some interesting vinyl graphics to the Alpine White RTW to jazz up the appearance a little. That would be my plan anyway.

I mean: they focus on how their vehicles run more than the colors and tend to be conservative with colors. Just look at the colors of German cars.

I know what you mean but that is what the market requires.
If the demand was there they would be more adventurous.

You can get an M4 in Austin Yellow Metallic like this:

I can't remember ever seeing one on the road though- most people go for black, white, red, blue or grey.
In 2L diesel land people don't want to be too noticeable- they are mostly company cars.
