MY go-to underwear is the REI brand wicking underwear. Inexpensive but slightly more then cotton and far more comfortable.

I have never tried the padded style since I got immediate good results with the plain wicking type. Wicking means that the fabric passes perspiration away from your body rather than letting you sit and sweat all day. I like the long leg style since that prevents your underpants from riding up and getting wadded in uncomfortable places.

Works for me. I also have a pair of wicking Patagonia long leg underpants. They cost twice as much and do not work nearly as well as the REI brand.

Bob, you've mentioned several times about underware choices i.e. REI rather than a aftermarket seat. what specifically are you referring to? padded biking shorts?

    Hi Bob,

Trust all is well with you. Just viewed your Lolo Pass video and send my compliments. One of my favourites as well.

    Best regards,

Once the factory warranty expired I performed most all maintenance myself. I washed my bike Wednesday evening June 4th just like I always do. Started it up and rode it back into the garage. I did notice a little burning smell but passed it off as water cooking off. I went out Thursday morning to leave for work and it would start. When I turned the key on I noticed the fuel pump did not come on and pressurize the system and the temperature display on the RID was maxed out. The starter motor would crank and the temp would drop about 4 bars but it would not fire.

I posted a reply or so I thought. Here it is again.
I am located in Southwest Ohio near Dayton.
I bought this bike new in 2001 from Tri-State BMW in Cincinnati, OH. (No longer in business).
I have a 2 year certificate in Electronics. I was an industrial machine repair/electrician for 10 years. I have been in Controls/Instrumentation for the last 10 years, focusing mainly in Allen Bradley PLC's. I am by no means an expert but thought a little background may help you help me.
The bike was pretty solid except for a very rough cold idle. It has roughly 44,000 mile on it. I don't get a lot of seat time but when I do I enjoy long trips. I rode to the BMW national in Spokane, Washington Bar Harbor, Maine and New Orleans via Raleigh, NC-Myrtle Beach, Savannah, GA Daytona, across Florida to the Big Easy and back to Ohio with staying two nights in New Orleans all in 6 days. Yes I was a bit tender when I got home.

    Hello,
My name is Jason Kerby and I am a new member. A friend of mine told me that you are a great resource for troubleshooting. I posted regarding my 2001 R1100RT not starting. I am not assuming you will help but I am asking for your help. I can go into further detail if you are willing to let me bend your ear. Thanks!
