Dealer Won't Stock K1600GT

Went to my BMW dealership today planning to throw a leg over a K1600GT. There were none on the sales floor because the dealership won't stock them any longer! The sales manager said the last one they had took 279 days to sell. The last used GT took on a trade took six months to sale. He also said he couldn't keep a GTL or GTLE on the sales floor, and the R1200RT outsold the K1600GT hands down. The sales manager had no explanation as to why the GT was a hard sale or why the RT out sold it.

Is there something I need to know about a K1600GT before I purchase one?

Yes, go to a different dealer! The PENSACOLA (I assume) dealer is not much help.
But except for the lean position/bars the GTL is close. Perhaps a local rider will let you swing your leg over theirs.
Alabama or Louisiana are 200 miles from you.

Re: Dealer Won't Stock K1600GT

Pensacola BMW is my backyard dealership with Baton Rouge (4 hours) and Jacksonville (5.5 hours) being the next closest dealers. Unfortunately it's a boring Interstate 10 ride to both.

There was a used GTL I sat on and the salesman did say the GT handlebars were shorter giving it more of a "sport" touring position. For the two minutes I sat on the GTL, I thought the handlebar position was fine. There was also a 2016 K1200RT I sat on. The salesman stated its riding position was similar to the GT, but he probably would say anything to sell it to me.

Anyone live within a couple hundred miles of Pensacola that would like to show me their K1600GT?

Re: Dealer Won't Stock K1600GT

When I was in the market for my GTLE, my dealer didn't have any GTLs or GTLEs in stock, but had (and still have) a GT I used as a loaner when having new tires installed on my LT. They ordered my GTLE from the New Jersey warehouse and I had to wait about 6 weeks to get it. There were 3 other BMW dealers within 50 miles of me that had a GTLE on their floors, but I preferred to go through West Valley Cycle Sales (3.4 miles away) to give them my business and got a great deal. If you're in the market for a new GT, the new '17s have a reverse gear, like the LT. The earlier K1600s don't have it, and I somewhat miss that feature.

Re: Dealer Won't Stock K1600GT

Hi Dave,

I've only used the reverse on my LT a handful of times, but it was nice when it was needed. A reverse on a 2017 K16 is a bonus, but the 2013 K16GT I'm considering has many rally farkles I like installed.

By the way, the GS-911 I purchased from you was a great tool. Thankfully I haven't needed to use often. I assume a K1600 requires an upgraded GS-911 for diagnostics?
