Easy Install of Brake Light Modulator

The original "BackOFF" Modulator (~$35) can be installed in less than 5 minutes on the LT LED Light bar on the top rack. This modulator has only 2 leads and it goes in between the + side of the 12v line to the the LED bar. i didn't photograph this because it is SO simple, i didn't think it needed it.

(Ignition off please) Remove the vanity mirror by removing the 5 screws holding it in place, disconnect the 2 pin connector. one side of the connector goes to the LED light bar and the other side goes outside somewhere (it's after the ABS system).

Cut the 12 volt line on the side coming from the bike (brown wire). splice and solder the red wire from the BackOFF to the bike side and the red/white wire to the connector side and tape it up. Put it back together.

The device can mount below and outside the mirror housing but could be mounted inside as well. Your choice.

It's really that simple. and believe me, if i can do it ANYONE-INCLUDING A GORILLA or any amoeba can do it.

Re: Easy Install of Brake Light Modulator

here be dem.

below the drop down vanity mirror is the mirror retainer. behind it is the wiring and connector. there are 5 screws around it. remove them (small torx screws).

when you pull the mirror and lower plate away, you'll see the connector and wires. note that i spliced on the left side.

i like you guys but i'm not going to remove the tape-then retape it. it's two wires spliced in to 1 wire.

And that's it?

UPDATE : Dennis Kirk website says it wont work on 06+ with cruise control.
Can anyone verify that?

I can see no reason for it to not work. No tie in from that light to the cruise.

I looked at the Dennis Kirk site and saw what they said. The top case rack lights have always been LED so their comment "may not work with LEDs" is bogus. No reason to believe the rest of it.

Re: Easy Install of Brake Light Modulator

if there's a connector separating the light bar from the bike, there's no logical reason why it would not work. it's THAT simple. honest

Re: Easy Install of Brake Light Modulator

Carrying on the conversation from here Ignition parking light position

I have just checked the bike and confirm that I did purchase the Kisan brake LED light modulator.

Have included 3 photos.

First two show where I sourced the 12v, eg from the passenger seat heating plug and the last one shows how small it is and where it goes, very much like the Back Off discussed above.

Any wagers on what brand of electronic device was distracting the driver of the rearmost cage.

If one of us had been between any of them we'd be seriously hurt if not dead.

Re: Easy Install of Brake Light Modulator

In any post, there is always one dumb question asked by the dummy. Here goes, exactly which back off device is used for the brake lights on the LT? I looked at the Dennis Kirk website and saw several back off devices. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Easy Install of Brake Light Modulator

There is no such thing as a dumb question. There can be, though, a dumb answer. Hope this isnt one of them.

Here is the Back Off link Lighting Control Modules - Brake Light Modules - Signal Dynamics

The module designed for the LT leds is the XP.

Here is the Kisan link https://kisantech.com/mag/tailblazer/25led-lt.html
