Help with tires

I have a 2008 LT with 4500 miles it NEEDS new tires. It currently has the Battlax 020 on it. They are original, the rear has fair amount of tread left, but due to age Im replacing both. They seem ok, but noticed they are very wavey and bumpy to the feel.

I have not been happy with the M 880, my 09 had them and didn't care for them.

For the reat tires, I really am wanting to try the Shinko 777HD due to multiple reviews and about how much it sticks. Also have seen some reviews say it doesn't last long. Well the past 2 yrs I have only averaged 5k miles a year so if I have to replace it again... oh well.

The weight rating I am concerned about, the speed rating a bit but if 130mph Im good. And not sure about the radial Bias ply thing, not sure if I should be extra concerned or not. Also want a similar sticky from tire because I don't want it loosey goosey up front. I have checked on here and Kurt from the BMW club in Illinois. But still would appreciate some help.

I would like help trying to pick a good sticky tire for the front. I am considering the Dunlop road 3, or the Shinko 005 advance or 016 Verge 2X, Bridgestone Battlax BT023 or the BT45 or T30GT, Avon Roadrider AM26 or Storm 3D, Mich Pilot road4 GT, Pirelli Anglel GT... there might be a few others.

Is there any tire of these that I should stay away from and why? Thank you very much I have always gotten great direction from here

Re: Help with tires

The only comment on about tyres is, if they are not reinforced in the side walls or load rated correctly then forget it.
Your life isn't worth a hundred dollars you may save by fitting a tyre that is not designed specifically for the weight of the LT. Try the shinko and see how it goes, I am on the new metz 888 and seems to be a better wearing tyre than the 880, If I end up getting more than 12000km from the tyre I will be happy, we have speed limits of 100kph on our roads so speed is never a factor in tyre choice.

I have 7024 miles on the Shinko 777HD with plenty of tread left and no problems so far.

Re: Help with tires

I have used the BT020 on the front and rear and as well as Metzlers on the front and rear. Unfortunately Metzler rear tire had a defect. I have just ordered the BT020's on the front and back and the price from Dennis Kirk including shipping cost me $273.

I hear you but, Nahhh not here in OZ mate, the speed laws are enforced heavily with mobile and fixed speed cameras, went under a fixed camera "not paying attention" at 107kph the fine $194.. the next step up $311.. next step @130kph+ up to $700.. and loss of license.

Yes I agree with you, I don't want to risk a lower weight rated tire Most of the ones I suggested I didnt fully check out before putting them in the list. But the Shinko is a HD tire and weight rated just trying to get some ideas. Looks like I'm goin to be limited since the 777HD is a bias tire.

Billbo-

What do you go with for your front tire? Good to hear you have 7k so far.

I'm still considering this tire again... I just don't like how wavey and the high and low spots on the front one are. And looks like I'll be dealing with DK on my tires, I have gotten some informative people on their tech side.

Re: Help with tires

I only have about 800 miles on my 777HD so far. But, I'm extremely happy with it. I've tried my best to abuse it, also. For my front, I went with the Metzeler Lasertec. So far, it's satisfactory in both rain and dry. Will know more as the miles pile up.
