headlight adjustment

1999 K1200LTC. I try to never ride at night but sometimes I must. Not worth a headlight upgrade when I do ride so little at night. I don't believe my headlight adjuster is working, should I see something moving when I turn the adjusting knob? BTW I have the same problem on my 1992 R100RT. Aimed well for hunting squirrels at night.

Re: headlight adjustment

I have the same thing on my MY2000. The knob doesn't seem to do anything.

Re: headlight adjustment

Just went and checked mine as I don't ride at night and I did see the light move up and down with the knob. I suspect yours was wound too far in one direction and came off the adjusting screw. I haven't been in that part of my bike yet so I am not visually familiar with the adjustment mechanism.

Re: headlight adjustment

yeah you should see it move if you are pointing at a door etc. unless it is disconnected, mine gets stuck sometimes I give the headlight a tap and it drops, I ride solo so don't have to move it very often

Re: headlight adjustment

Can I do this manually? like reaching under the fairing and moving it with my hand?

Re: headlight adjustment

Can I get some info on removing the upper fairing? My manual says to remove the upper trim pieces first but it does not tell how or even what the upper trim pieces are!

Re: headlight adjustment

That knob does little to move the light. Mostly to compensate the light change as you load the bike with gear. The gross adjuster is up on the corner of the light assy. The cable attach point is also shown in these shots.

Re: headlight adjustment

Thanks Jzeiler for the photos. Can it be adjusted with the fairing on the bike?
