2014 GSA

Any idea what month we should start seeing the new GSA in dealerships in the western part of the US?

Have you heard what the retail price will be?

Re: 2014 GSA

Local dealer says they may be in around early March. Official pricing should be mid Jan but they say to expect about the same as current year cost.

"They" told me the same thing at the Long Beach bike show... The RT will be out around the same time.

Re: 2014 GSA

These are going to be a hot item. In my area the regular GS model is in short supply at the dealers. I have a buddy who plans on buying one but I can't convince him to put a deposit on it. Going to be interesting.

Latest rumor is that official US pricing will be released on Tuesday and that deliveries may run a bit earlier than previously thought. I'm waiting patiently.

Well they came in much earlier than anyone expected and they should start showing up this week at the dealers. All of the initial bikes will come loaded with the Premium package that includes the Touring and Technology options.

I am curious if anyone has gotten a quote from the dealers?

I got an initial price from the dealer and they are asking $1500 over list.

Thanks in advance.

I was #3 on the preorder list and my bike is coming in Tuesday and ready for my pickup on Saturday. A Blue one. There is a very active thread on the new GSA's on Advrider where many have already picked up their bikes. So far everyone is getting them at list and the first wave of bikes are all fully loaded with the Touring and Technical packages.

Re: 2014 GSA

BMW Motorcycles of Baton Rouge has one in OD Green. Only need to add some Army stickers and you are good to go. I can flatfoot this one unless the load settings are in the two-up position, then back to the tip-toe position or slide off the seat a bit for stops.

The bike looks good, and the only thing I would add immediately is some guards for the radiators inside the fairing. They are huge targets for rocks.

We've had similar concerns on the K16 bikes with their single huge radiator sitting right behind the front wheel.

Check this thread over at K1600froum.com for some ideas and solutions.

I stopped at BMW MC of Louisville this afternoon. They had a '14 GS-A, in Alpine White and some shade of red. Great-looking bike. I had forgotten how big that thing is.

Smile Re: 2014 GSA

I saw two green ones at A&S in Roseville CA.

Initial impressions:

+1, They covered up the injectors and hardware with the tank fairing, don't have to buy the Wunderlich covers.

+2 They added a little glove compartment on top of the tank, good place to put your earplugs and sunglasses, don't have to add little box on top of handlebars...grin.

+3 The crashbars actually cover all of the valve covers and go up high enough to guard radiators and top of bike. Don't need to install aftermarket lower crash bars.

+-1 The small driving lights are mounted out too far for easy take off in a dump, but there is a place in front of the valve covers for light mounting that looks to be protected.

-2 The ADV bikes are all coming in with the BMW Luggage racks pre-installed. I would rather they leave these out so we don't have to pay for them if we go with Jessey's or other Bags and mounts.

Just My two cents....grin

Re: 2014 GSA

Here are the twins at the dealership yesterday. Mine is the front one. Only got to do a 50 mile ride but was very impressed. A few different sounds to get used to and will have to get comfortable with it in the twisties. Did find out that that in dynamic mode, you can lift the front without really trying.

Thanks guys. In two weeks I'm off to the BMW Performance Center in SC. Doing the two day enduro course so that I can learn how to ride this beast off road.

Did you take it out in the snow, Tom? That's a sure-fire way to learn to ride it! BMW Performance Center, huh? Did you get that thrown in as part of the deal? Sounds like fun!

Was not part of the deal (there are no deals on these ). I signed up for the course a few months ago and am taking the last class included in the 2 for 1 deal that BMW has been running. Also will be using their bike, not mine, so that I will not mind going down too much.

BTW - Snow in the South sucks. I am so ready for Spring.

Travman

I have taken the 2 day off road once and the one day on road a few times.

If you are not in tip top shape, the two day off road is a bear. On the second day I was so worn out. As a precaution I took some Excedrin in the morning on the second day and at lunch to help with the aches and pains.

Wish I could join you as I just traded my LT for the 2014 GSA WC and need to learn to ride the GS in the woods again.

And yes use their bike, I had one lean over into a tree on day two in the technical riding in the woods and bust a $1500 head light and was glad to not have to pay for it.

Have fun and report back on what you think.

Re: 2014 GSA

I just took the 2- day off-road course on Monday and Tuesday this week. It was a blast but I can say that it was one of the most physically and mentally demanding things that I have done. Having no real off-road experience, I overcame obstacle and gained skills that I would not have thought possible before the course.

I'm impressed that you took that course and only had one get off. In my 6 years of riding I had never gone or even dropped a bike. I went down 5 times over the 2 days; 3 times in the mud, once on a gravel hill, and once in the sand. Each time though I got up, learned what I did wrong and went over the obstacle again successfully. No one in our class of ten made it through the course without multiple drops. The bikes were a mess.

Now you know why the Performance Center and RawHyde both suggest renting their bikes ! The big thing is that you will try things while learning the techniques without the worry of trashing your personal bike !

Yep, definitely recommend using their bikes. Here is the GSA I was using about midway through day 2 and mine was fairly clean compared to several others.

Travman,

Sorry, I never meant to indicate that I only had one get off. I would say that I only had one get off in the first 1/2 a day. LOL

Glad you enjoyed the course as I am planning on doing it again later this year or towards the winter.

I am too busy enjoying my '14 GSA right now.
