My manual only covers up to pre 2004 bikes. Is it messy doing this on a 2005 model.
I currently have the bike stripped down to replace the coolant as well as the air and fuel filters and am not too entusiastic about doing the brake flush at the moment. Can I do it at a later date without having to strip too many plastics ?
I seem to remember reading somewhere on this forum Mark that its a right pain in the arse to do on the facelift models.I watched them do my lt when it went for a service they had pipes connected in 3 or 4 places and the fluid had to be sucked through.
I did read a how to on here but cant find it.
Mark, quite a lot written about flushing the brakes on '05 and latter. To answer your question you can just remove the LHS battery cover plastic to gain better access to the ABS motor. I was able to assist the dealer in Lisbon to do ours and gained a lot from watching. He could only use a large syringe, something we all could do. It is a straight forward procedure but you do need to do it carefully.
Cheers
You only have to remove the one side cover to do the flush. I have an adendum posted in the Technical Files area which shows a low buget way to flush the 05. It was done as a follow on to Mark Nebblet's article on the earlier power assisted brakes. The biggest difference is the reservoirs are ON the ABS unit. Also for a flush (vs. bleed) you only need to open one port on the ABS for each controll circuit even though there are three. That one it the tall ones of the six. One for front and one for rear.
Thanks Chris! That is perfect. Tons of great info all in one place. I'll be bookmarking that!
