I was thinking that there might be some interest in the following.
I have been looking to get a new windshield but with all the choices out there:
Aeroscreen
Ztechnic
CE Bailey
BMW
Parabellum
Bikescreens
Clearview
and the list of options goes on and on . . . shopping and comparing, lets say, has been difficult.
I have read many, many posts and visited many many vendor sites. That's great but when you are plopping down anywhere from $175 to $450 and you don' t even know if you are going to like this thing - well that's just darn risky!! Most places do not have return policies - can you blame them. Going for a windshield is like buying clothing or apparel - you have to try it to see if you like it. Most all dealers are really not prepared to help in this matter in a significant way. I know of one vendor has a ride it and try it program - well they are over 250 miles from me and its only one vendor.
So I thought to myself where else could we get a chance to try out/on a windshield to see if we liked it viola . . . CCR! What I would suggest is a windshield swap. No I do not want to ride your bike and I don't want you to ride mine. I just want to borrow your windshield for a few minutes put it on my bike then drive "my" bike around and see if I like it - period! In fact I would like to evaluate several windshields and also have input from my significant other. Hell man I want to try / experience them all wouldn't you . . . ?
Sounds simple to me - those who are interested sign up and state which windshield they have. We arrange for a specific time during CCR and all we do is swap windshields (4 screws off and 4 screws on) for 1/2 an afternoon and you come away with several experiences, likes and dislikes and an opinion of what your next windshield is going to be or isn't going to be. You also get to meet people, make new friends and at no time is anyone asking you for your keys - we are just socializing and making sure you get to experience one of the many shields.
Now it is possible that only those who want to try out different shields are those that are riding original BMW shields. After the signup list is viewed if there is a lack of diversity we might convince others or ask for volunteers who have some of these non BMW products to help out and lend us their shields. We can also beg if necessary.
I believe this is a very low risk, high reward opportunity for all. Unless you are part of a big group of K1200's that gets together frequently this would be a great opportunity for others that ride single most of the year...
This could work for a few other items as well: tank bags, foot and leg support systems, and even seats. But for the moment my focus is on windshields.
So if you are interested let me know - if I get a suffiient responce I may post a signup list . . .!!! If there is no positive response I may just wander CCR asking a select few to swap or borrow!!
