Hot BMW News

Is your next LT just around the corner?

The Internet is abuzz with news of the BMW 6-cylinder concept shown at Intermot this year. According to one source: "The Concept 6 will expand the K-Series very soon with its introduction as a luxurious tourer, the brands top-of-the-line bike" - "BMW hinted that the concept bike itself is something of a red herring, but the 1600cc engine is not - it will appear next year powering their grand tourer".

BMW "Concept 6" prototype

"Aerodynamic components such as the twin-tipped engine spoiler and the air guide elements derived from the design of the new S1000 RR Supersports," BMW says, "bridge the gap between functional and clearly visible technology and the smooth design of other body elements.". Carbon fibre fuel tank, hollow camshafts and lightweight connecting rods all underscore the emphasis on shedding weight. This should bode well for the next king of the touring segment.

BMW "Concept 6" engine

The inline 6-cylinder, based on the K1300 55-degree 4, has an additional two cylinders, but is still very compact. The displacement is rumored to be in the 1600-1700cc range.

BMW "Concept 6" engine

While all the talk is about the sport bike shown, with a single throttle body, this engine is clearly destined to appear in a touring platform. According to sources at BMW "The engine will produce about the same power as BMW's 1.3-litre straight-four but torque will increased. The engine offers 130Nm from 2000rpm but can rev to almost 9000 rpm – unmatched in the touring segment – and fuel consumption will be on par with a four-cylinder given similar running conditions.

BMW Luxury Touring
Welcome!!!

The BMW Luxury Touring community exists to promote a friendly, on-line community specifically related to luxury touring on BMW motorcycles. This site owes its genesis to BMW's Flagship Motorcycle - the BMW K1200LT; however, all riders who like to travel two-up, enjoy the better things in life, and share many common interests are welcome to join in on the fun.

Our focus is on community and riding, providing many forums specifically designed to help you make plans to meet and ride together. We provide regional forums to make plans in your neck of the woods. It's the bike that brought us together, but it's the people that keep us together.

Community Rides

One of the great strengths of this community is our consistent desire to create opportunities to get together during the year. We relish opportunities to ride, share technical knowledge or to enjoy a great meal. Early on we learned that we needed little in the way of an excuse to ride across several states or even into a different country simply to meet for dinner. Below we have listed some of the many rides and gatherings that have been planned for this community this riding season.

Visit our Rides and Rallies forum to see discussions for all the rides or to announce your own.
