Canadians where are you and what BMW bike do you drive?

This Canadian discussion thread has been very quiet so I thought I'd start a survey to find how many Canadian bikers are lurking here and where you are located and what do you drive. Here is a start!!!
Thanks
Jim!!

Re: Canadians where are you and what BMW bike do you drive?

Hi!
Great to see many of us Canucks who ride Beemers. Unfortunately most of us will be putting our bikes to bed for the winter soon. I was wondering if there is anything different with regards to winterizing this bike.
I usually do the following:
Clean the bike.
Fill the tank with premium fuel.
Add fuel stabilizer.
Cover the bike
After a couple of months recharge the battery.
Should I disconnect the battery before recharging it?
Other than that, I just look at it occasionally and ponder, when when will spring be here!
Take care.

Usually I will change the engine oil, transmission oil and final drive and air filter. This year I will be also be changing the brake and clutch fluids. This way when spring arrives I am ready to go. Normally, I disconnect the battery and give it a good charge.

Then I get my skis out and wait fro the snow to arrive.

Have a happy winter.

Re: Canadians where are you and what BMW bike do you drive?

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, I just had the dealer complete the 6000mile or 10k service which included the oil, filter, and final drive, and other required fluids.I don't think he did the brake fluids, however I may get that completed next season!!

Re: Canadians where are you and what BMW bike do you drive?

Hi Garry!
We get a few days that might be good enough to ride, but as I will be in Arizona for 3 months, I just insure the bike for about 6 or 7 months. There are so few days that we could ride in the winter that it just wouldn't pay to insure the bike all year. I was thinking of trailering it down to AZ for the winter, however I will have to investigate if my insurance will cover me in the US.
Take care.

I don't know about in BC, but in Ontario you can't insure for part of a year anymore or your next years rates go up.

Re: Canadians where are you and what BMW bike do you drive?

In BC we can buy insurance for 3 months or more which makes it convenient for those of us who only ride for 6 or 7 months of the year. At that point we purchase storage insurance which can include fire, theft, or vandalisim. It does save us quite a bit in insurance premiums. The insurance is high on motorcycles because when in an accident there is a good chance it will be written off completely. Touch wood, I havn't been in a fender bender yet!!!
Take Care!

How about a transplanted Canuck? From Edmonton, now hiding in Houston. I dont have to shovel much rain and get to ride pretty much every month, but I wont rub that in too much

Feel free to holler if anyone is in the area and needs a friendly accent or assistance (tools / garage to work on bike) or directions or....

Re: Canadians where are you and what BMW bike do you drive?

Hello. How true about how few LTs there are. It is a rare site to see another one around this area and when I park it at any Tims, it always draws a crowd. Well I am off for a ride, got to make the best of the weather

Question Re: Canadians where are you and what BMW bike do you drive?

Noticed a champagne LT in the valet parking area of the Marriott Fallsview in Niagara Falls this week. Anyone know who this might be?

Yeah, it belongs to the guy that is trying his luck at the casino to win enough for his next service maintenance.

Take care.

Hi I'm in Stoney Creek Ontario:
I don't winterize , I try and ride all year long . It is not uncommon to see me flying over the Burlington Bay Skyway in -10 C or lower as long as there is no ice that is . Last year there was a lot of heavy snow so there were a few weeks where all I could do was back it out of the garage & run it for a while . I hope we don't get too much snow this year . Besides in Ontario they will only sell you insurance for a full year . I'm glad to see so many LT owners in Southern Ontario. So far I have had few problems . Right now my Tach is not working correctly ( center button fell off ) & my revers gear only works for short distances ( Doesn't bother me I just revers in stages.Hope to see you guy's around

Yeah, I wonder if the casino has that amount of money on hand!

I believe the reverse will normaly cut out if it gets too hot... how long are you using it before it does not work?
