2 up on the LT?

I'm considering a trade from the LT to the new GT and have been allowed a short 15 minute test ride on the new GT. Wow! We cover lots of miles when touring and are a little hesitant making the switcheroo based on a 15 minute test ride. She (my partner) seems to like the comfort level and thinks that the GT will suffice. I'd consider adding rather than switching but only 1 bike is in the cards. We love the LT but the GT is calling my name. Is there anyone who can give me a real life opinion on a long day as a pillion in the Gt saddle? Bye the way, she's 100lbs. soaking wet.

I am currently considering selling my LT and getting the new GT. I have 42K on my LT and ride mostly 1-up...though my wife does enjoy riding with me. And as the kids are getting older, we will ride more and more during her summer vacations. So far, we have only sat on the GT, but she thinks it will be as comfortable as the LT for her. I have ordered a 'Deep Blue' GT with the contingency that we get to take it out for an hour test-ride before making the final decision. My dealer has agreed to the terms.

Joe, how is the riding position on the GT compared to the LT? Feet farther back? Do you lean more forward? Are there plans for a stereo on future GT's? Who cut your hair?

The GT's handlebars have more adjustment than I've ever seen on a bike...so I don't know if you can get them as far back (or further) than the LT's. No plans for a stereo that I've heard. I don't need one. An intercom with an iPod (or satellite radio) is all you need. Sue or Connie at Bainbridge Hairdressers.

The idea of a touring bike with a kick-ass motor excites me.I love the LT. And (hopefully) I will never try to make any bike sound like it is thee best bike in the world. I'm just hoping that the GT is a very good compromise between my LT and ZX-11. All day comfort 1-up or 2-up, with more lean-angle than the LT, and a comparable motor to my ZX-11. Is that too much to ask?! :D

The rider's position on the new GT is much more "aggressive" than the LT. You should not even compare the two. The foot peg relationship on the GT is up and back. The handlebars are lower and more forward (a bit more than the RT, for comparison). Your knees fit inside the faux tank.

I love the rider's position on the new GT. However, I love my LT also! But they are nothing alike!

Took a customer's GT out for a long ride today. With and without the wife (125 lbs. and 5'4")

MUCH better looking than it photographs. The "angles" are pretty cool even though I prefer curves on my women AND motorcycles. ;)

Amazing machine for 1 up - absolutely top of the class. Nothing even comes close. Phenomenal. BMW has created an entirely NEW class of motorcycle. The push button suspension is sublime. The motor is a work of art. Tour or carve corners all day long without a care in the world at any speed you want. Stunning is the operative word. Makes boxers totally obsolete.

But for two up? A joke - a very cruel joke. She absolutely hated the tiny little seat and ferocious wind blast at speeds over 55 mph.

Not even a contendah for the LT's 1999 technology for two up touring - now 8 years distant... you can't have it all. That big 'ol honking fairing, windshield and trunk on the LT smooths out the airflow for the passenger.
