Angled valve stems

While at the dealer (BMW North Dallas) the other day, I noticed that all the Ducatis and Triumphs had the tire valve stems that I want! The are a solid brass(?) fitting that angles the valve about 45 degrees so you can check and adjust the tire pressure without doing origami tricks with your hands and tire gauge. The fittings are very low profile and definately not the 'bent pipe' extensions you would see on a GW or cruiser, apparently negating the stress factors due to high rotational speeds.

The parts counter would not or could not sell me a set, sizing apparently being the deciding factor. They suggested that I could locate them on the net. Dutifully, I have tried; no joy! Has anyone seen these for sale in a size that will fit a BMW LT wheel?

I approached this problem from a different "angle" :)

I have found a digital tire gauge with a 90 degree head that easily fits to the standard LT valve stem and does not come into contact with the disk, etc.

It is not cheap @ $19.90 + shipping but having easy access to tire pressure for this important task makes it worth while...

I bought RoadGear's talking tire guage for $25. I love it! I ordered a pair rom CALBMW. As I recall, the front stem was striking something as I rotated the front tire. I opted not to use them.

Sportbikeeffects.com sells 90 degree valve stems. They are not the bent tube type but are made to lay flat on the rim with the valve tube coming out at 90 degrees. Not sure they have the right size for bmw but if you know the size needed he can probably get them to you.

Joe, the $4.95 one you showed us I don't think will fit easily onto the LT stem. Heck, My Genuine BMW digital tire gauge does not fit either without bending the stem over!! It has to be a short 90 degree to fit easily...

I too love a deal, abut having to spend $20.00 + shipping for a tire gauge is ridiculous !!

Or you could spend $29.95 for the sportbikeeffects.com billet valve stems. I think that's each. :eek:

I use the SmarTire (http://www.smartire.com/products/motorcycles/index.html) system. It's not cheap either, but I can get real time pressure and temperature readings while riding, plus it warns me if pressure or temp goes out of range. That's worth a lot by itself.

I second Ken on the Smartire. It sure does give you piece-o-mind, particularly after you think you just ran over something on the road:( .

Now the question is what size is the correct one for the LT? I'm guessing 10mm: does anyone know for sure?

This guage (http://www.sierrabmw.bigstep.com/item.jhtml;$sessionid$VONGLTIAAADKVTZENUEZPQWPERWRJPX0?UCIDs=820323%7C1224087&PRID=1546525) has a different twist... just clip it onto the valve stem then inflate/deflate with the guage in place... no more back and forth with the guage and air hose. decent price too.

Anyone looking for these can go to page 967 from the following link to the Tucker Rocky Street catalog and look in the lower right corner. MC Enterprises with a Tucker part # of 59-6945. Almost all motorcycle shops are dealers for Tucker Rocky and should be able to get them for you.

No, that's actually for a pair and based on the single unit price that's fair. Unless of course you find someone discounting them. :D
