I bought my LT from Roman Cycle in Austintown. Since '02, they have been nothing but WONDERFUL to me. I could tell you a few stories that you just simply would not believe. I have nothing against Dale & Co. at BMW MOC . . . but once I form a relationship, I try to stay loyal. Of course, this is a two-way street. ;)

Too bad you didn't get to this point two weeks ago. I had a line on a used Blue GT (35 miles) for around $3,500 off. It was all I could do not to pick it up on the spot. Sometimes house projects take priority. :( After riding Jeff's I really regret it. :(:(

I'm still not sure if I want to wait for the new LT, or get a GT now and then look again late next year. It may depend on how my consulting business goes over the next few months.

I can't believe I'm actually considering this move. It's freakin' crazy! But it reminds me of how I got the LT. I took a long ride on my Honda Magna, and on the way back home I just knew that it was time to get a new bike. A new bike with a new purpose. I've often said that I like having the LT and Ninja because I have the best of both worlds. But just what if the new K1200GT has merged those two worlds together? And I guess there's only one way to find out.

Like you said...we can always get the new LT 18-24 months from now. Right?

you certainly can.... if you don't mind losing a bunch of money in depreciation IF you choose to get rid of the GT at that time... probably $5,000.00 :o

you might be right.... but one of the biggest downsides of owning a BMW bike is the precipitous drop in value in year 1.... the more a bike costs, the most it loses in value in year one...
just like a boat... they surely aren't investments.... except in your mental health (which is INvaluable to me)
in other words if you get into the habit of trading bmw bikes on a yearly or every-other yearly basis.... you better have deep pockets :)

I was a Bogart's BMW in Birmingham, AL over the Mother's Day weekend. They had no 1200GTs so I ask and the owner stated that they expected a BLUE ONE in during the first couple weeks of June that WAS NOT spoken for.

CAUTION: I-65 goes both north and south but seriously is one dangerous interstate between Birmingham and Huntsville. So if you get to feeling like flying and riding you might want to check this dealer out.

Joe, your dealer can locate at Blue one for you and work out a transfer to their dealership if they as so inclined.

Dusty was prepared to do this to get me the Adventure I wanted if he couldn't get it from the factory.

There's a blue one 12 miles away from my house...it's just at the wrong dealer. And I think there's a little bad blood between the two local dealers. Maybe not, but I think there is.

That is strange... :confused: Here in France it's the contrary. BMW and Harley (+ GW) are the most expensive bikes :eek: but are also the only ones that still cost a lot even after years. But I agree it loses a lot in year one, as does all vehicles. :(

Japanese bikes, specially sportbikes and roadsters just cost nothings after a few years. :rolleyes:

I'm considering rental now. You pay your monthly rent and keep the bike as long as you like. Sure it's a higher cost, but there's a certain peace of mind in the process I guess.

the harley market is drying up in the US...
you can now buy almost any model right off the showroom floor in any harley dealer in the US... that means that great resale value is no over. bmw never had that kind of marketability here. there have always been plenty of bikes around, and while bmws may not have lost japanese-type money in depreciation, they NEVER held their value like HDs in the US.
my 2002 LT has a value of 10K now.... and it'll be 9K in 1 year
the new GT will cost 21K now.... and will be worth 16-17K in 1 year
my 1994 HD softail classic was sold after 3 years for exactly what i paid for it (though i had spent 1.5K on add-ons.... fairly cheap, of course)
a 2006 HD for 18K will be worth 14K in 1 year
of course, the economy in the US is horrible right now and that affects things as well... disposable income in the general population is sharply down from previous years

What is the source of your economic data? The while the US economy does not ebb and flow with regard to Harley resales, most economic data is quite positive. The Fed does not raise interest rates to speed up an economy. Despite all the negativity surrounding fuel prices, the public continues to buy fuel unabated increasing tax revenue at the federal and state levels. People are also making snap, financially questionable decisions to buy new cars for better mileage further stimulating growth. I can't get a parking space at any of the regional retail stores(Target, Sam's, Home Depot, Lowe's, ect) on the weekend. I see a lot of money changing hands. Last weekend I took a stroll through A&S BMW. Every used BMW in the shop was sold and the inventory on new bikes was a thin as I'd ever seen it and at least half had sold signs on them including both GS Adventures and the one blue GT. Commerce is definitely happening in a big way. :o
