I returned last night from my first road trip on the 06 Adventure from the Tampa Bay area to Western North Carolina (Robbinsville area).

2800 miles over 5 days with two Slab Days up & Back to Flatland.

The 06 Adventure handles the Super Slab with ease, wind noise is the worst of it.

The bike really shines in the mountains and handled the twistys like it was born to do so.

I had more fun on Deal's Gap than I have every had on any of the other bikes I've been there on.

I'll post KillBoy's shots of me when there posted.

The Gap was packed as one might expect due to the Holiday long weekend.
I talked to a group of riders out of Canada that had ridden their GS's down, don't know if they are on this site?

Didn't see another 06 Adventure the entire trip, did see a lot of GS's everywhere.

The Adventure is running like it's possessed!
It feels like it has more power every time I ride it.

The Tourances did a great job on the twistys but it was like Ice racing on the Tar Snakes in South Carolina down around Caesars Head.

I'm so impressed with the Adventure, can't wait to head back to the hills!

Got Great Mileage in the mountains even with riding it like I stole it all day long. http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/icons/Laughing.gif

We received a Group Performance Award on HW28 in Swaim County NC.
The NCHP Trooper wrote us at 70 in a 55, could have impounded the bikes if he had written us for our actual speeds.http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/icons/eek.gif

We had an interesting dinner experience in the middle of nowhere East Tennessee;
The Front Porch restaurant located in Cosby TN on Hwy. 321 six miles southwest of Newport TN
is a Mexican food joint with Live Traditional Blue Grass music complete with dancing and the obligatory "Yeeee-Haaw!" every now and then.

Sounds like you have a great trip - As for the Tourances, they are a Kin to the 880's slip and slide.
The Anakee's have about the same tread but stick like glue, haven't been able to make them slip yet.

I bought the 10 segment, 3 DVD version of "Long Way Round", and watched it over the weekend. Made me want a GS!

Excellent DVDs, quite a bit of footage that was not in the original 7 segment TV series, and some nice extra features.

Nice photos, Dave.

We stayed at the Robbinsville Microtel during STC II. Nice place, and not too far from the Iron Horse Lodge.

What bike2bike system do you all stay in contact with?

I was out in the dirt on Memorial Day. About 30 miles worth.

Dirt and gravel were fine, but sand.... That's another story.
Running the tourances....

In the light sand (Less than 2 inches), was slicker-n-snot.

In the deep sand (Up to a foot). Had to paddle. Had the bars locked, rear spinning, and she didn't even want to budge. It took me about 5 minutes to make it 5 feet through one spot.

Only went down once in the sand. She rolled up on the BMW crash bars and Zega Panniers. Nothing else was touch the ground. Not even a scratch, not on the bars, not on the panniers, not on me (thank goodness).

She lifts right up, just by the bars, didn't even have to use the butt against the seat technique.

Dave, you'll have to let me know how the Adventure handles when she finally goes down.

Keep the rubber side down (If you can in the sand)

That is a good DVD set, amazing how many time they dropped the 1150s, picked them and drop them again over & over.

The second day I had the GS I headed into a huge sand & scrub field near the Casa and the hard packed stuff was a blast but if it's loose at all the GS wants to dig in and the front just plows.

I got stuck up to the skid plate in seconds!
Get off, grab the ass end of the GS by anything you can get your hands on and drag it out sideways.

Then I put it in 1st and nailed it and she plowed her way out of it.

The Tourances do OK on the paved and hard packed stuff but the bikes to heavy to play in the loose stuff without the appropriate tires.
