I have read the posts sighting how a number of people did not like the handling with Avons on the front and back. I am assuming the people questioning the suitability of this combination have tried them with the stock BMW recomended tire pressure rather that the elevated pressure recomended for better milage. Can anyone report if the handling irregularities were present at the lower recomended pressure? I had a chance to talk to a woman from Avon and she said these tires were made to run at the factory recomended tire presure. She agreed that these tires generally had a faster turn in response, as a result of there variable belt density, and running higher pressure would increase this response.
I am anticipating a set of tires soon and have run Avon's in the past on different bikes and have been very satisfied with the handing and wear. Metzler's have way too much noise for me and the bias 020's are ok but would like a little better wear at lower inflation pressures.

I ran my Avon front at 42psi. I liked it's performance and feel a LOT, and the mileage looked like it was going to be really good too. But, my rear B'Stone Radial delaminated on me and I switched back to Metzelers.

Bad assumption, at least in my case. I ran them with elevated pressures, which should have made the tires more solid and less wibbly, but that wasn't the case with the rear. The Avon tires are just softer tires overall, and the rear isn't really suited for the weight of the LT. The front was fine, and I still prefer it for its combination of good wear and handling.

I will probably stop by Bob's next week and have them mounted up. I intend to start with stock pressure and increase in a couple of stages and see how this affects the ride. I know general knowledge would indicate that in a tire that has a softer ride and displays handling as decribed running higher pressure would seem to be indicated. In fact there were some Avon tires for the Goldwing that required 50 lbs. min. I also know from working in the auto industry that just because a tire rides well is no indication that it has lateral flex equal to its ability to deflect inward around bumps. I will give a report on what I find.

Make sure there is not allot of soap and water put on the Beads, I always purge mine with nitrogene gas about 20 times and my pressure never changes any, anytime, any altitude...matthew
