While having my 12K service work done, my mechanic told me that my 02 LT is leaking anitifreeze into the engine sump by way of a ring. They did a pressure check and it is definately leaking. Has anyone experienced this on a bike with so few miles? Should the motor be replaced or fixed? At this point BMW doesn't want to cover anything because it's out of warranty.

I can't offer you a solution but I can tell you that the same thing happened to a friend of mine in his 3 cylinder "K" motor last year. Big bucks.

Sorry and good luck.

Probably the seal between the water and oil pumps, which are "stacked" together on the front of the engine. Not a "normal" failure by any means, but not unheard of on the "K" engines either.

Hopefully you caught it before any damage to other than the seal took place.

Here is the picture of the water/oil pump on the K engine. The water pump is the front part, the oil pump is the rear, with 2 seals between them.
