I have a 2002 with the nav 1 system. The bike was in for service and had the nose cone off, when they reassembled the bike I now have no GPS reception. The gps works with the short antenna that I use for the car but not the one in the bike. Is this antenna available from BMW or Garmin?

I brought the bike back to the dealer, they took the nose off again and found the antenna was not velcroed in place. They replaced the velcro and now the antenna is place and all is well.

Good deal. I'm surprised it needs an external antenna at all though. I know an external antenna aids in getter better reception, but I didn't think one was "needed". I do have the 2610 which equivalent to the Nav II. Your Nav I is equivalent to the SPIII.

FYI: The NAVII is the exact same guts as the 2610. I can not say for the NAVI.

If I recall the Nav I/Garmin required an external antenna, wither mounted on the back or on a coax extension. Hope this helps.

The Nav 1 does need that antenna. You *should* use the one mounted under the nosecone. While the short stubby one you use in the car will work, it will prevent the windshield from lowering all the way and it *will* scratch the windshield. AMHIK...!
