Okay...
Been askin around about MP3, CD, IPOD, ABCDEFG....etc., etc., etc. Blah!
Too much electronic alphabet gizmo's with their own problems. Drivin me crazy.
Here's the primary objective:
Put down a deposit on the '51 MG and waitin on the sale of the LT to close the deal. So, I am bored, right? I am already planning our 35th Anniversary tour in the Western North Carolina area. Mapping, dreaming, checkin bed and breakfast/hotel availability for different dates and all that. Even gotta buy a new set of tools (Whitworth...not SAE or metric).
Then, I thought about having tunes whilst we ride. The Cd changer is good on the LT but no can do on an antique car that wuz built on designs from the 1930's, there is NO radio whatsoever.
Can't install one anywhere without ruining the car. So, I need a totally self-contained audio system including speakers in a minimally-sized package. In fact, thinkin a Sirius Sportster would be a cool choice. But that takes an existing radio...which must be added to the package.
Hope I am describing the situation so it can be understood, because there is VERY minimal space in the luggage area behind the seats for suitcases, cooler, etc. anyway.
Any helpful suggestions from all the audio gurus out there? Your input would be greatly appreciated as I would like to install it in my '70 B as well!!
Thanks, guys.

Lessons?
Shoot, I can't even carry a tune in a bucket!! If I tried to sing myself, I would have more problems with horned rats than I do now!!
Besides, who can beat The Monotones, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Dell Viking, Frankie Lymon, etc.???
BTW, stole this from another site:
The unwritten rules for doo-wop groups were deceptively simple: name your group after a bird (the Wrens, the Flamingos) or a car (the Cadillacs, the El Dorados), practice your two-, three-, or four-part harmonies on a neighborhood street corner or in the back of a candy store, and sing songs about how much you love your baby. It might have seemed like an obvious formula, but getting it just right was never easy. When it worked, that formula created some of the most joyful and unforgettable music of the 20th century.
Sorry about the nostalgic lapse there...

I know...I know...that would ruin everything! I guess I'm not much of a 50s music fan. I'd rather listen to the 30s and 40s if I'm going back that far. :)

Something like that. My dad forced us kids to watch Lawrence Welk growing up...so we all kinda acquired a taste for it. I never thought I'd listen to it under my own freewill. Who knew?

I played in a Motown band for two years...so I'm a little familiar with a few of the groups.
The Temptations (I like the 2-disc set, 'My Girl: The Very Best of the Temptations')
The Four Tops
The Dramatics (often forgotten...but they are awesome!)
The Stylistics
Aretha Franklin
Martha (Reeves) and the Vandellas
Little Anthony and The Imperials
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
Diana Ross and the Supremes
Marvin Gaye
Sam Cooke
The Drifters
The Platters
That should get ya started...

Thanks, Joe..
Think I'll do 40's, 50's, and 60's cd's for the tour. THAT should be enough variety for a few days!

You might want to conceder a XM Boom Box. As a truck driver I use one for work with good results. Its reasonably small, put the antenna up use the remote control to tune stations or just listen to 50s all day.

you could easily build a solution using XM radio or Sirius and then get some portable speakers from radio shack.

Whew!!! For a minute there Dave you had me scared. I remember the trip down to the Florida ERC. I wish I hadn't given you those ear plugs. I could hear you trying to sing with the radio from 8 bike lengths ahead. ;) :D
I know, I'm being mean. :)
I hope you're having a great weekend.

Huh?
Did SteveR say sumpn? Maybe if I removed these earplugs....
Seriously, though, Steve...I have mentioned a number of times how much I enjoy earplugs whilst driving OR riding!!! That is one of those tips that will last a lifetime, not to mention my hearing!!
Eureka!!! Now THAT may have struck another chord. Earplugs with audio built in for touring in the MG.
Okay, gonna look at XM Boom Box with earplugs!
Thanks guys!

Dave,
Here is a quick link for you. I have a couple of these. One is in the garage or at work with me. the other is in the house. Batteries or 12V adapter.
Is the MG 12 or 6 volt?
Anyhow, that is one solution.

Found another one with more goodies in it for the same price...

Check out the XM Radio Pioneer Inno personal portable XM/MP3 player. Use it with a boosteroo and you can have 3 pair of earbuds in operation.

Hey Dave, I rigged a stereo in my 61 MGA that I used to have. Like you I didn't want to muck up the dash.
I rigged a small shelf that hinged at the firewall and came back under to the trailing edge of the dash. I put a small slide/bolt type latch that caught the inside/hidden edge of the dash. the stereo simply sat on the shelf. I rigged a couple strings to let it drop enough to use the unit. I could drop it down while using and push it up behind the dash into stealth mode when not using or at a show. The speakers just sat under the seats!

If I'm going to play oldies...it's going to be Motown.I bought a used laptop from a 20-year old who left his music on it. He actually had Journey and The Eagles listed under "oldies".
