Tire tread - Marathon 880

Just noticed that my new tires seem to be on the bike different. Back tire has the start of the tread (center) on the leading edge with the end of the pattern (outer side of the tire) following.

The front tire is the reverse. Is it wrong? If so which is correct? My limited knowledge is telling me that the front is wrong and it does make a difference.

Your tires are mounted correctly. Rear direction for traction; front reversed for less rolling resistance.
