Ah, the religious crowd, they never seem to grow tired of peeking into bedrooms and trying to outlaw what they see.
Next, I am sure we will see some attempt to pass a constitutional amendment restricting childbirth to married couples only and that no marriages may remain childless. After all that is what they say marriage is for.

Remember the motto:
No Copulation without Procreation!
Or as the Monty Python chaps would have it:
Every sperm is precious.

Wait. They bought the house and need an "occupancy permit"? What's up with that?
Every sperm is precious.
Great. Now that's stuck in my head. :)

I live not too far from the community mentioned in the article. As usual, there is quite a bit more to it than the liberal rags print, but they get the reaction they wanted.

Can you explain the concept of occupancy permit as it applies in this situation?

Gary T's right. I live near there myself and the original intent of the law didn't have anything to do with keeping unmarried couples out of town. I was to prevent a whole bunch of people from all moving into one house with you and your family. Like your brother and his family, and then his wife's sister and her kids. And after them your third cousin's friend needs a place to stay. You get the idea, you could have 20 people living in the same house, maybe related or maybe not.

AND? That makes it no longer *MY* house? Usually I am not one the guys always having a problem with government intervention but this goes too far even for me. Who lives in my house or not is really none of the governments business. It may very be that this article doesnt show both sides, but then I can't see any other side either.

I think that the idea of Bagwan Shree Rashneesh moving in, just makes them see RED.;)

i saw the original story when it broke and i believe the number of people in the two-story house is a couple and two children. not exactly an enormous extended family.

Here in the county where I live, you must have an occupancy permit when moving into a newly constructed house. Obviously, they inspect to make sure that the roof is on and the toilet works, etc. Some communities have deed restrictions about the number of people that can live in a house, what color you can paint your house, etc. Usually folks are made aware of these issues before settlement. I think there is a "rest of the story" here some where.
