Anyone living in the Las Vegas area who owns a 2005 K1200LT who might be able to provide advice/assistance in connecting a Garmin 2720 to the map light as power source for the 2720?
I've thrashed around the forum trying to find instructions on how to do it but with no success.
I'm brand new to this GPS stuff on motorcycles so any help would be great.
(And I'm really antsy to get this unit out on the road and use it!)

Thanks, Raffy..now do you know how to remove the map light cover without me destroying it? Does it require removal of the dash cover? Sorry for sounding like an idiot..I'm just not that familiar with the LT just yet..getting there though..LOL!

It's wedged in with a friction tab. Take a small screw driver or 2.5 mm allen key and insert (1"-1.5") in the left side opening and then tilt the item to the left by using the dash as the fulcrum (pivot). That should pop the light out.

Most people cut a little notch in the side of the maplight opening to route the Garmin cable inside. You can simply enlarge the little hole on the left side of the maplight, but be careful not to remove material where the friction tab holds the light in place. If I had to do it over again I might cut my notch along the top of the opening.

When I removed my map light, I found a power wire, a ground, and a third spare electrical tab, this tab became live when the light switch was moved to the centre position. I wired my radar/laser detector to this tab and to the ground.

Switch top position off
Switch middle position powers on the detector
Switch bottom position powers on the light and detector.
Real handy.

Okay..finally got the 2720 wired to the map light..working as advertised..
Went out for test ride today and it works great..don't how I went this long without it..
For info: on the 2005 = brown is ground and black/black is the hot wire..not the green/violet..

Does the 2720 come with a power cord with unbundled wires, or do you have to disassemble the 12v cigarette lighter adapter?
