Hi All,

I just received my Garmin 2720 and I have a question about wiring it to the map light. Does the hot wire (red) from the GPS connect to the green and purple striped wire or to the purple and black striped wire?

I'm assuming the black wire on the 2720 connects to the brown wire on the map light. Is this correct?

One more question: Does anyone know the guage of the wires connected to the map light?

?? Do you have more than 2 wires on your map light? Most LTs have a brown wire for ground.

Best use a voltmeter and check which is ground and which is positive? Then connect red to positive and black to ground. Another way is to see which wire is attached to the right side of the map light and has an empty male terminal next to it and the opposite side single terminal would be ground.

Someone will chime with the wire gauge.

BrianThe '05's have an extra wire for the "courtesy lights" feature. Brown is ground=Garmin black. You'll have to take a voltmeter to the two positive wires to see which one is only hot after the ignition is switched off, but in the meantime, my (dim) memory is that the green/violet wire is the one you want.

Sorry, don't know teh wire gauge (other than it's small -- more than adequate for a GPS, but that's as far as I can help.

Thanks for the help! Yea, I'm thinking it's the green & violet wire that I need also, but will use the volt meter to make sure.

Follow up on wires:

just completed wiring my 2720 to the map light..

Discovered: brown = ground
brown(violet?)/black = hot
green/violet = neutral (nothing)

2005 K1200LT (purchased Aug, 2005)
