I'm new to all this and my bike didn't come with the owner's manual so I'm still trying to figure few things out.
When I start my bike the two ABS lights are flashing but as soon as I start to move they go off. Is this normal?
I haven't figured out the BC yet. Where is this information displayed? On the same screen as the radio? If so, I think my BC button on the handlebars isn't working.
When I opened the top case the other day the restraining strap popped off the lower case pin and wound up inside the housing. Has this happened to anyone before? It looks like it is riveted together. How should I go about repairing this?
Thanks for all your help.

Welcome tp the site Kevin,
The ABS lights will go after you get 3 mph (I think...sot 100% on the speed). But, the flashing is normal at startup.
For the BC, look on the left side just to the right side of the left mirror. There is a little square diplay there.
Not sure about how to get the snaky little recoil back out of the housing.
Ask away and don't be shy. You can search the site as well for any topic you want to know about. There is lots of stuff on here. Great site and the community.

When I start my bike the two ABS lights are flashing but as soon as I start to move they go off. Is this normal?Yes -- the system does a self test at start-up (as well as further self-tests during operation). It can check everything in the system at a standstill except whether it is receiving signals from the front and rear ABS wheel speed sensors. As soon as you start off and generate pulses in the sensors, the lights go out.

If so, I think my BC button on the handlebars isn't working. Our RajinCajin is right :) The BC button duplicates the rubber-covered left button just below the face of the BC read out on the left side ofthe dash. The button cycles between the 4 screens -- ambient temp, ave. speed, ave. fuel mileage, and miles to empty (IIRC). The right rubber-covered button is the reset button for a couple of the screens.
When I opened the top case the other day the restraining strap popped off the lower case pin and wound up inside the housing. Has this happened to anyone before? It looks like it is riveted together. How should I go about repairing this?Yep -- but not to me, as I have G&G armrests, which allowed me to disconnect the cord to get it out of my way :) A search on the subject (probably better luck in the Archive forum) should turn something up, assuming someone else doesen't chime in here sooner.
And, Welcome!

OK, when I look to the right of the left hand mirror I see a blank panel but no screen. Was the BC an option for the 1999 LT's? If so, why the button on the handlebars. I have to get to the dealer to buy an owner's manual soon :p
Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks,
KevinNo wonder you think we're all nutz! ;) The BC *was* an option on the '99s -- the Standard (base) model didn't have the unit. The BC button on the right grip cluster has no function on these bikes. IIRC (check behind the dash for the connector first!), the BC harness is installed, so if you pick up a BC (e.g., used parts vendor) and plug it in, the BC switch will control it.
