View Full Version : Throttle Cables ... is there an easy fix ?

These have to be the stiffest throttle cables I've ever used on any motorcycle ever.

My hand actually gets tired holding the throttle and blipping the throttle in down shifts while simultaneously braking is literally impossible. (And I've got a veritable monkey's grip)

Is this just a bad design or is there a fix ?

Thanks!

Don't know what year your bike is. But I just did the throttle upgrade on my 2000 Lt and what a delight. It is a total upgrade. change the existing housing and cables to a 2005 design. You will be happy with the results. Denny

Thanks ... is it very expensive ?

I've done throttle cables before when building customs , but I figure with this tied into a cruise control , it may be a little different.

The throttle cables are completely seperate from the cruise control. You do not touch the cruise cable when working with the throttle cables.

Remember to lube the throttle mechanism at engine! Mine was very sticky, and after cleaning/lubing was a totally different experience to twist the throttle. I think it cost me about $150 in parts to make the change-over to the new style on my '01.

Thanks for the replies guys ... I'm gonna have to do it. My throttle is so stiff I'm worried I'm gonna twist the rubber off the grip.

Just changed mine as well from 02 to 05, you will need the cables and mod kit..

BTW, if you'll take a few moments and upadate your profile, you may find someone near you or with common interest that will be of great help...

Check out the information on this forum as well...a ton of great information.

Went on the BMW Sponsored Poker Run this past weekend and the few guys I ran into (It was full of 95% Harley guys) didn't even know what the brown wire was :bmw:

What's the "Mod Kit" ?

Also check the grease between the handlebar and the twist grip. I found this had turned into a very sticky goo and was probably causing more of a problem than the cables themselves. Clean off the old grease and put on a light coating of new.
