Hi Gang,

My ‘05 LT has about 5k on it and has developed a problem with the raising of the windscreen. The problem is, the mechanism seems to shudder as it goes up and sometimes won’t go up at all. I’ve had 4 different screens on the bike trying to find one that I like. The most recent is a CB #2 with wings (-2)

I’m going to take it to the dealer next week. I’m wondering if the official answer is going to be “the aftermarket windscreen has voided your warrantee”.

Has anyone experienced this issue and what was the outcome?

Yup.. mine does that... I lubed the pivots and seems to help. I am running a BMW tall windscreen and only saw it a couple times.

I had similar once, sprayed the joints in the mechanism with DRY teflon spray, never had it again.

Ditto for me too. OE shield, used dry teflon spray and problem resolved. Dick

My CB -2 windshield sometimes refuses to go up if I am going 100 mph+/-. But, hey you don't need to be messing with the w/s at that speed :) . I do think the extra weight of the CeeBailey shield does make a difference, but it should not void any warranty.

It's not so much the speed as much as it is the lip at the top of the CB #2. Sometimes I find going 60 + it won't go up... without a little help. But I do love how stable the CB windshields at speed due to the thickness. Great product!!

I had a problem with the Cee Bailey screen just catching the tupperware as I raised it from the lowest setting. Had to trim a tiny amount from the bottom of the screen to get good clearance.

As for the CB shields not going up at 60-70mph +, it's the shape and wind resistant...nothing to do with the weight of the shield.

Lube the pivot joints! I used silicone spray, you can pretty much use whatever you want but just lube those joints.

I know I will probably get a rash of S?*T from a bunch of you for this, but stay away from wd-40 as a long term lube. Don't get me wrong I have a can of it and I use it all the time as a solvent (http://www.hoosierheart.com/wd40.htm), gets the bugs, road grim, tar, whatever right off of the body work and cleans my wheels up real well. No! Don't use it on the screen.

See ya!

Yes I have. Last year while joining the Droppers Annonymous Club, my stock windscreen hit the garage wall and the lift mechanism mount broke. My extremely generous insurance company volunteered to buy me a new one, as well as a new windscreen. The dealer put in a brand new lift mechanism and I installed a Cee-Bailey #2 -2 w/o wings. The lift mechanism acted just as you described yours does. After a few months and nothing getting better I returned to the dealer. He immediately diagnosed the problem as being with the lift mechanism, said nothing about the Cee-Baily and installed a new one under warrantee. So there you go!
