June 3rd leaving Kentucky heading to Montana. Going to go thru the Black Hills of South Dakota. My question is what would be a better ride, riding across SD or Nebraska and shooting up to the Black Hills via 27 and the Sans Hills area. All opinions are welcome.
Thanks

In SD, before the Black Hills, you can pass thru Badlands. It's a very interesting scenario there.
Then, after Black Hills, make sure you take the detour to Devils' Tower.
I did it from West to East few years ago and you can see it here:

Opss... didn't mention it.
I would say Nebraska is quite flat... not much interesting in my opinion.
SD still flat but at least you can go to some places.
If you prefer freeway , take a look on the attached picture.
Now if you prefer by-ways then there are many options to avoid the freeway

I've been out there on my bike and really enjoyed the Platte River roads and the old Lincoln Highway(US30) in Nebraska. As you get west of North Platte, route yourself past Chimney Rocks and Scott's Bluff (US26). It's the old Oregon Trail, good if you're at all a history buff. From Scott's Bluff head north through the Pine Ridge in NE to Chadron and stay at the "Westerner" motel, a totally MC friendly place where the owner (Larry) threatens to charge you more that the usual $28 rate, because you're on a BMW (he backs off if he decides he likes you).
From Chadron, I did a day's loop up into the Black Hills and rode all over. Maybe you can head out across the Badlands on your way back home.
Have a great ride.

Heading to CCR last year, I went west across South Dakota, mostly I90 and found that I made good time, especially off the interstate. Coming back east I traveled I80 across Nebraska. I was amazed that stretch of interstate is over 500 miles across Nebraska, boooooooooooring, but not as bad as Kansas on I40 did that coming back from CCR in Sante Fe and won't do it again. Strong crosswind and kabump, kabump, kabump, kabump.

Highway # 2 is a very nice road running from Grand Island Nebraska up through the North west portion of the state to Alliance, Nebraska. It is through the sand hills of Nebraska where there are very large ranches where celebrities like Ted Turner has his buffalo herd. This road will take you up to Alliance, NE then you take highway 385 North up through Hot Springs, SD and into the Black Hills National Forest. This is a route many riders use when enroute to the Sturgis Rally in August because it takes you close to attractions like Crazy Horse, Mt. Rushmore, and Custer Park. While on Hwy # 2 You will pass through Hyannis, NE. this town has the highest percapta of millionaires of any town in the US. You won't see much traffic on this road but when you do they all wave and will stop to help if you have a problem.
