2007 Honda Goldwing
Starting in spring 2006, Honda's flagship motorcycle will be available with the world's first motorcycle airbag, able to inflate in 0.06 second and fully absorb the rider's forward energy in 0.15 second (less time than it takes to blink an eye). This innovation represents a major advance in motorcycle safety.

Yup - it's for real.

Was posted around several bike boards earlier this year. Couple vids of the thing in action float'n 'bout too.

that's nothing, I heard that BMW was coming out with seat belts and an ejection seat!!!

i think the thing looks crazy, but they say it works. My worry is what happens when you hit a pothole and it blows you off the bike? that would kind of suck.

I talked w/ a dealer last fall who saw the demo - if the fork collapses, bag deploys (so doesn't happen easily)... supposedly they showed dealers a demo / high-speed video of a t-bone setup (like a pull out would cause) and the rider started to lift off the seat to be thrown - the bag caught him, bike stayed up, and rider came down some number of inches back down on the seat and got off.

Of course I didn't see it, but _that's_ impressive. Predict as people realize how useful it is, more bikes will be showing up with this.
