Enjoying my morning cruise just before daylight Friday and I had myself a true wake up call or what I like to call a "Hawg moment". Looked down to check the gas gauge and looked up and OH SHEEEET! A rather large deer was coming straight for me from the right. Luckily I had just activated the cruise to speed up and I did not freak and hit the brakes and leaned to the left. He or she slammed on the brakes too and it's head just slapped the front below the mirror and bounced off of the saddlebag. Looked back and it was gone. Next thought was oh man my bike so I pulled over and with great dread walked around to observe the damage. Some deer snot on the front and a few hairs sticking out from the saddlebag seemed to be it. Thank you Lord. Got to work and upon closer inspection there are 4 small what look like claw marks on the trim piece of the saddlebag. Minimal damage indeed. Living in Illinois and being by a large park I am very aware of the deer population but this guy came flying out of a gully and caught me by suprise. I was very lucky. Another nth of a second and I would have hit him head on. Lucky, lucky me.

How much damage to your pants and the seat! Wow, that's as close as you can get!

Yikes!!

Glad you came outta that one okay!!!

Ya know, we were dis-cussing how many riders we had at the HDDC dinner Wednesday night who had ACTUALLY touched (by hitting it with the LT) a horned rat...frightening that of the eight guys there, THREE of us actually hit a deer and two came within inches!!!

Wake Up!!! Indeed...this is gettin all too common.

Ride safe everybody....

Yep that is lucky.

Sometimes even if you look, they jump down / out from nowhere.

I've a set of these. I keep 'em in the garage where my bike lives.

After moments like that, I find them indispensable for removing bits of seat material from my back teeth.

Pucker factor extreme!! Glad ya made it so nicely :thumb:
