Do red cars draw more traffic enforcement attention? I wouldn't think so, but I've heard of people not buying red cars because they fear getting more traffic citations.

RED cars get tickets because the majority of red cars are sports cars. And poeple tend to drive sports cars faster than station wagons.
LEOs...right or wrong?

I agree with Joe. They get more tickets because they are sports cars usually and drive faster and more carelessly. In my 25 years I never heard a single discussion with my compadres about going out for red cars. Also, my insurance guy said it is not true that red cars cost more to insure. Again, it is the type of car they worry about.

There was a 20/20 type tv special just last week where they debunked 10 myths. One of the myths was about red cars getting ticketed more or into accidents more. The myth was false on both. Seems red cars are ticketed even a little less probably due to the fact that their perceptions of being singled out made them drive better.:)

No, I don't ticket red cars more. The cars that get ticketed, draw attention to themselves by their driving actions and not the color of their car.

Well, in Hotlanta, at least ONE of APD's finest targeted a red Stingray in the left lane against the wall and ticketed it. The driver asked the LEO why he picked him when everybody else was going just as fast. He stated, "Because you were in Red Corvette in the left lane against the wall."

I've never heard this in 30 years in the job.

It's not the color, it's the operation speed etc. that gets the officers attention.

No, that is what is great about traffic enforcement. There is no color, race, vehicle color, about of money in the bank when it comes to traffic enforcment. You will stop all types.

Malki, have you heard of speeding snooker - it doesn't happen (;) ), but pot the reds, then go for the colours - finish on the black, but as I say, I'm sure it doesn't happen. BTW, I'm a rider & a driver - feds stopping you for speeding are a pita, but, I would not do your(their) job - scraping people out of wrecks, cleaning roads off, then seeing eeeeeeeeeediots (the Irish in me) driving/riding like loonies, so you have to start all over again. BTW, no points on my licence since I was 17(and no offs, scrapes, bumps or insurance claims since then either), but the average speed on my Sat Nag is 62mph over 7k miles. Might have been lucky, I like to think it's survival skills.

@ Wooly - although I've been in the job for 30 years, I still shit myself when I see a marked up polis car behind me - something I've never got over - and I don't hang about either - job taught me my advanced driving on both a motorcycle and cars and emphasised (in those days) to make 'progress' meaning if the car or bike can do 150mph then you don't hang about at 70mph when its safe to go faster. I do however move with the times, and am protected against Radar - Laser - Lidar - Gatso - Mini Gatso - Truvelo - Falkon & Specs et al even although I have never prosecuted anybody for speeding, in fact I've never issued a ticket in my life, I'd rather be out catching Mr bad guy who would rather have your bike in HIS garage than in your own :D
I've scraped more than 10 bikers off the front of farm implements in my time, usually because they are going into blind bends faster than they can possibly stop, so this does tend to slow me a little on the twisties in rural areas. I KNOW I can go faster, but can I stop is the question. Anyway...got a little carried away here...what was the thread

...I might ride like a pussy (i.e. super wary), but my dad (an old school GP) taught me one thing - 'ride/drive as fast as you can see', if you can't see don't go for it - there might be a 'pregnant nun on a bycycle' around the next corner/over the brow etc. I've stuck to that, and at 49 and a bit years old, I think I'm doing well, and as for speed cameras, I still believe (mistakenly, maybe), they are safety cameras, not 'revenue generating devices' - all the ones I've seen are in suitable places, where one shouldn't be speeding. (still drive back from London to Darlington in 3hrs 15 mins occasionally, and driven at 155mph in the UK( but I should not be saying that), but there are still places where 30mph is far too fast.
