May 18th, 2006, 9:36 pm
Starting a new thread here for those who are attending the June 17 Tech Session in Rushville, Ohio. Please add your name (and SO name, if attending) to the list, your forum name, and if you would like (a) lunch and (b) dinner. Just copy/paste the list into your reply, adding your info to the bottom.
I have added the names of those who have told me they are definitely attending. If you see your name please add the details about meals. Don't let the idea of meal reservations deter you from attending at the last minute.
Thanks!

I was planning on showing up at 11:59, eating lunch, taking a little nap, then maybe...just maybe...turning a wrench or two, then leaving. (But not til I ate some free dinner!)
Of course I'll be helping, man! I know you think I'm a bum...but I'm gonna prove y'ALL wrong. :D

Then again, it'll be a long day, so 4 might be on order. Is it considered bad form for a host to disallow adult beverages at a Tech Session, knowing you're going to be riding afterwards? I won't be serving any... not because we don't drink but because we don't want any drinking followed by riding. I wouldn't want to be responsible (in the moral, not the legal, sense) for a guest getting clobbered on the road after leaving our event.
This has me thinking, having just posted several replies regarding the Pittsburgh quarterback whats-his-name and his lack of helmet while riding. I can't come down on the side of personal responsibility on that issue, and not on this one; it doesn't seem consistent.
I don't smoke, but I won't stop you from smoking as long as you do it outside the building and police your butts. I don't drink beer and I don't mind if you do, but I'm thinking not at a Tech Session I sponsor. I'm hoping this does not come across as "it's my ball and I'm going home"; it's more serious than that.
That said, what do you think? Am I overreacting? If any of you guys are dead-set on having a few beers at the Tech Session please reconsider. If it was an overnight event it would be different. Maybe this is a sacrilege. I'm open to your comments...

If I was to consume some Guinness...it would be several hours before I saddled up to ride off.

Howard, my deepest appoligies, considering I neither smoke nor drink I agree with you completely on drinking and driving or riding. My thought on bringing Joe a beverage of his choice was a token of my appriciation for his efforts at the session. And from a previous post that I read elsewhere on this site.
How about if I gift wrap it and he can savor it at his humble abode? or maybe christen his new GT.

GlenGlen, no apology is necessary. You're welcome to bring Joe a gift (let's not spoil him, though, OK...? :D ) of his favorite beer, cigarette, farkle... whatever. We understand the spirit in which it's intended. And it's a classy move on your part. Just wait until you see what I have waiting for him to do on my bike!
I think today's new helmet-related threads got me to thinking that I couldn't feel right about (a) serving alcohol (which wasn't going to happen anyway) or (b) "letting" others have a few and then go riding. I'm sure none of the attendees had that in mind but it was on my mind.
"Christen his new GT"? As in smashing a bottle against the front of the bike? Yeah, let's do that. You first! :D

Its a Nazi move, hey you asked.
These folks are old enough to make up their own minds.
If you did not drink and it was a moral issue, I could see that and agree.
To come over with this after the thing has been in the works for a month seems like BullShit!
I don't drink or smoke myself, but not for moral reasons just for my health.

RockSo Rock, how do you really feel? :D
Not sure what a "Nazi move" is, but it doesn't sound like something positive.
You are correct, I did ask.
I've learned a couple of things during the time between when this Tech Session was first announced and as the day draws near. One of those things would be to post any "rules" up front. That way all involved can make an informed decision. I do recall posting a request about smoking on the premises, early on in this thread (smoking is OK just don't do it inside the building).
No doubt everyone there is more than old enough to make their own choices, I just don't want to be a part of (by serving as host) any bad ones. Whether or not I am in a position to do that -- by hosting -- can be argued. I think we've beaten this horse enough that those who read this thread may be wondering "whassup?", and I don't see it as any real issue. The only person who mentioned enjoying a cold one is Joe, and he's OK with taking his gift home.
I'm looking forward to meeting you and everyone else on Saturday.

Sorry guys but I will not be able to make it. I just bought one of my dream bikes (2003 Honda Magna - Candy Blue) in Atlanta and I'm flying there on Saturday to pick it up. I really needed to make it so I could get my HID kit installed, but I'm sure you guys understand.
Joe - We will have to hook up soon. It's killing me to have the kit just sitting there.
I found the Magna today. It was bought brand new in 2005 and then the guy had a baby. It only has 335 miles on it... The oil has never been changed yet. I've wanted a Magna for a long time, and they only made it in that color in 2003. My wife said if I could find one I could get it for my birthday. I just love the V4 engines and the sound is awesome... I can't wait.
Sorry again guys.

RockIf somebody wants to donate a GPS as the Grand Door Prize I'll be happy to figure out the coordinates then post them.
US 22 intersects St RT 664 at Rushville. Turn right (north) onto St Rt 664; go through Rushville (1 traffic light); from US 22 and St Rt 664, it's 1.8 miles to Bope Rd; turn left. Bope Rd. dead ends < 1 mile onto Gun Barrel Rd; turn left. We are the 3rd house on the right, counting the house right at the intersection of Bope Rd. and Gun Barrel Rd.
NEW INFO FOR ATTENDEES (sorry, at the last minute my Alzheimer's has cleared up): skip the gravel drive to the house and go 50 yards down the road to the gravel drive which leads to the building where the event is. You'll see some pennants at the gravel drive on the right, and BMW flag on the building. That's the place. Watch the gravel; it's solid until you get near the building then it gets kind of squirrely. Drive right onto the concrete.

We are the 3rd house on the right, counting the house right at the intersection of Bope Rd. and Gun Barrel Rd.So basically...we're talking about good ol' N39 47.200 W82 26.759
Cool! That's all I need. :D
