A good friend from work, lives in Southern California, was cruising down the freeway yesterday afternoon at about 65mph. Helmet, no other protective gear. Truck hits a car in the side a few car lengths ahead, sets the car to spinning across two lanes and right into my pal. He launches over the bars and rolls down the highway. Bike is turned into a pancake by at least one car. He ends up in the carpool lane. Looks up and sees a car headed towards him, he rolls to the shoulder just in time.

He's lifeflighted outta there.

Now - get this - I see him online this morning and we're IMing back and forth while he tells me all this. He's still in the hospital, but he's on his laptop. Go figure. Bruised all over his body. Stitches. No broken bones. A bit of road rash.

Lucky guy.

Be careful out there.

Where was this? I heard reports on the radio going to work yesterday that there was a tie up due to a motorcycle accident. (In the San Diego area).

Glad your friends gonna be OK. Once he heals and has time to reflect . . . maybe you can convince him into believing in ATGATT. He would've probably been a lot better off.

Glad he's ok.

Glad he is okay. With summer upon us, I often fight the thought of not wearing my jacket, but stories like his come to mind.

Wasn't the one I heard about on the radio then. I was home at 5:30.

Don't mean to hijack the thread and I wish your friend a speedy recovery.

I took a hit from behind last night while sitting at a red light in dowtown Columbus. A kid in a 1960 Chevy Impala claiming his "brakes didn't work" clobbered me and my beloved 1987 K100RS. The bikes totaled I'm sure...I had her for 18 years and 88K miles. I was pinned under the car for a short time which was pretty scary. No broken bones or internal injury...did the whole trauma center thing, those folks are good.

This is the second time in my 37 years of riding that I've been hit from behind while stopped. The helmet pic speaks for itself.

I'm wondering what to do next...Call a lawyer, call my insurance company (I only have liability on the bike) or just wait for them to contact me. The kid was cited and there are witnesses. I know they won't offer what the bike was worth to me.

Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was rear-ended in 2000 and it broke 4 vertebrae and crushed 3 disks in my back.
Two years of therapy 3 times a week produced no meaningful results, it took surgery to correct the damage that kept me in pain daily for two years.

Get in touch with a good lawyer (I know), not an ambulance chaser.
Get the therapy the docs prescribe and don't speak to the other guy or his lawyer directly.
Let your lawyer handle it.

BTW, glad your here to post about it!

Please add some details to your profile so we know a little bit about you. Are you in Columbus, Ohio? That's my stomping grounds.
