A guy is riding a BMW from the top of Alaska to the bottom of South America trying to set a new world record and also raising $1 million for the Pat Tillman Foundation. http://www.pattillmanfoundation.net/
How awesome is this? Take a look at the attached photo... Make a donation!

Interesting attempt.
Although I have to say He is going to have a tough time. Cuz if he leaves in July in Deadhorse, AK he is going to arrive in the dead of the winter in South America

Not to break anybody's bubble, but the MTF is organizing a similar ride later this year. More details can be found here (http://aleduc.iweb.bsu.edu/2006Americas/index.htm). A number of those riders are on a BMW or Suzuki V-Strom.
Tom Sayer, one of the regulars there, recently did the ride backwards on a DL1000.

I think these folks are the current record holders:
Guinness World Record breaker
Kevin and Julia Sanders have broken two Guinness World Records. In 2002 the duo smashed the World Record for the Fastest Circumnavigation of the World by Motorcycle, taking 12.5 days off the previous record. The couple averaged riding 1,000 miles a day and rode 19,461 miles in just 19.5 days.
Then in 2003, the Sanders' broke another Guinness World Record for riding The Trans-Americas by Motorcycle. This was the ultimate endurance ride through North, Central and South America. The journey started at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, USA, deep in the Arctic Circle and finished in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego in Argentina - the southernmost city in the world. The duo rode two-up for 17,000 miles, through extreme conditions in just 35 days - beating the current record by over 12 days.
