Well, finally - coming up for air after getting Toad back from Rhinewest's OR. Been several months since I've thrown a leg over, so I signed up for the basic MSF course to see what I've forgotten!!! (OK, not).
Anyway, back around the 19th of Sept, on the old .net website, there wuz lotsa talk of an October RTE. Comes down to Sunday, the 16th and is gonna take place at Orsak's Cafe on the Town Square in Fayetteville, TX. Great burgers and sides, and recommended by David (dbfly), who is in residence in the 'hood there. Originally, Don Mitchell over in Bellville had recommended the TX Star Cafe in New Ulm, butt they aren't open on Sundays. So, for this one, we'll see how good the Jalapeno burgers are at Orsak's.
GPS co-ords, according to Google: 29-54.27N 96-40.59W. Scroll down the page at this website to see a front view of the cafe:
http://www.fayetteville-tx.com/ . Their phone number is (979) 378-2719. My cell is two-one-zero 4 one 6 zero 3 zero 6 in case you can't find the town square (in a town with less population than 300!!).
Figger on some tire kicking while working up an appetite - order starting around 11:30 to beat the church crowd! Then some more tire kicking. And then for those that are into classic/vintage cars, like me, there is Sterling McCalls Auto Museum not too far away. I'll post some info and the website on that tamale.
And by the by - since the Houston BMW Rally gig in F'burg should be winding down on Sunday, maybe some of those folks heading back home to the Houston area can make a stop for some handshakin' and munchies in Fayetteville. Hope so.
I'll give Orsak's a call late Thursday, or early Friday and tell 'em what to expect in the way of numbers, so if you'd care to join us, please just post a reply in this thread and I'll keep it a sticky until then. Thanks all.

Hey, Stephen - the Coleman bros are coming down heah that week-end also. Bruce is coming in on Satiday and staying in Marble Falls I think. Then his bro Rick is coming down on Sunday. I know Bruce will be doing the RTE - not sure if Rick is gonna get off work Sunday in time to make the RTE, tho.
Be great to see you and Patricia again - been a long time.

I think we will be coming down Saturday evening and staying in the Brenham area. One of the chillens stays around there. It would be a good time for a short visit.

I'll be there, but my bro and some of his friends won't be. They don't end their shift until 7:00 am and by the time they get home and packed and on the road it will be almost noon. You know how those fire dudes are....so laid back that they take their time doing everything unless they hear "code" ringing in their ears.....then all he** breaks out.....
Guess I should call it in and see how fast they can make it down to the Hill Country.

Dayem, dayem. dayem. Sandy has a trip for us to the Coast planned. I'm closely watching the wx, if it turns to the dogs I'll be able to go. Sigh.
Mayhaps she wants me to go this time cause she's tired of messing up la trucka?

I'm guessing around ~4 hours from F'burg, depending on the route. I believe Coleman and I are breakfasting in Blanco, then 165 to 290 to 71 and run thru Bastrop/Smithville/La Grange and hang a left at 955 into Fayetteville.
Hey, we can make lunch call a leetle later; after the church crowd clears out - we'll wait on y'all. The auto museum is a do/don't-do option.
You plannin' on being home Sunday night/evening 'fore dark thirty?

It's just a small detour, you can always hook-up with Ed Early for the ride back.

Hey, OK David - been wonderin' where we were goin' for dessert!!! Couldn't find the Baskin-Robbins in Fayetteville!! ;)
BTW - if you were in the Hill Country (Blnaco area) and heading home, to make tracks and save time, would you run IH-10 to Schulenburg, then 77 up to La Grange and then 71 to 955 - or - IH-10 to Columbus, then 71 back to 955? OR, would you take 290 into Austin and 71 down to 955?
I'm not familiar with much of the area where you are, as regards road conditions and small town slow-downs. I just know I'll get there, butt might not be the bestest route. Thanks, David.

The fastest way would be 71 through Austin, straight down to 955, a few lights east of Austin, but getting better. We rode from Kingsland to Fayettevill sunday in just over 2.5 hours.

So, Dick, how come your not going to ride up to F'burg to visit with your ol' Houston buds? I guess if you ain't gonna come up to see us, we'll have to come down to the F'ville RTE on Sunday. That is, if you'll let us ride in on somepin 'sides a LT. Sheeeeitzam, this'll be a big'un of a weekend.
Lookin forward to seein you Bubba's. Hey, they gonna have any of those giant pies in F'ville?

Hot dang, Bud - gonna be good to see you guyz ag'in. Been too long.
I'm letting Edgar Tanner be my proxy in F'burg - mofact, he's up there today, riding around with Paul Yeager and scouting out the ride routes for the week-end. Also thinks he and Deb are gonna make it to Fayetteville Sunday!!
Reason I'm not in F'burg? --- that honey-doo-doo list that I'm intimate with has me moving furniture all day today and Satiday so the painters can splash around and fingerpaint the walls. I gave 'em off Sunday, so I can make the RTE. I'm bringin' along my appetite too!!!

I'm ready to hit the road today!!!! First time Toad has spent the night at the casa, since April. I kept getting up during the night and making sure thangs were ok in the garage. Toad prolly didn't get much sleep cuz of that, nor did I - butt, hey, we're primed to go tamale and can hardly wait.
Cy'all at Orsak's, or maybe the Blanco Bowling Alley Cafe for breakfast if you can't sleep late. Everyone ride safe, please. And log my cell phone in, if needed. Two one zero, four one six, zero three zero six.

Well, well - best laid plans yada yada!!!
I wuz just gettin' ready to call Orsak's Cafe in Fayetteville and alert 'em to be on the lookout for some bikers tamale for lunch! Had just parked in the comfy chair and got SkyPe fired up, and my cell rings with El Jeffe on the other end.
Sez he has some bad news about tamale!! Seems that Don Mitchell rode thru Fayetteville on the way to the F'burg BMW rally (where El Jeffe is) and saw a sign that said Orsak's would be closed Sunday. I thanked Jeff; told him to thank Don; and I got on the horn to Orsak's.
Shore enuf - the gal sez they gotta close, cuz seems there is the town square right in front of Orsak's and they're shutting the cafe cuz the town is celebratin' Lickskillet - an event that takes place on the square. She said "y'all come on down anyway, cuz we're sellin' some awesome BBQ plates and all the fixin's and you're gonna lick yore plate clean"!!! :p Said there will be plenty of parkin' around, and the wx is gonna be Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce kind!!
So - I called Bruce Coleman, who is holed up in Marble Falls for the evening, and told him the deal. He agreed with me - let's go!! So, he and I are still on - same routine; breakfast at the BBA and a leisurely ride over to Fayetteville and see if them town square BBQ'ers have their act together.
Again - tote my cell phone # along witcha and call me if you find that yelling on the town square doesn't get my attention!! Cy'all there.
Lickskillet huh? I think I'll brung my digi-cam just in case!!! :p

We might find more skillets than we can handle - See you tamale!

Well, we pretty much licked the skillet clean in Fayetteville today. Definitely wiped out the dessert table!!!
Coleman and I met at the BBA for breakfast and watched the *Changing of the pie pans* this morning --- a rather sparse crowd of regulars were there, so the service wuz pleasant and quick. Half dozen caffeine refills and we lit out on 165 over to 290E. Took 290E and merged with 71E for a nice ride down to La Grange, where we grabbed 159 to head over to Fayetteville. Had only been on 159 shortly, when we met a silver LT heading in the opposite direction - we waved, but since I hadn't been riding since April, I forgot all about doing the secret LT wave!! My bad. Turns out the riders were Stephen and Patricia Moore (Bustedknuckles), who we later found in Fayetteville at the Lickskillet do.
Pulling into Fayetteville, we were stopped by the traffic director (LEO) while the parade of old cars, old tractors, old horses, and old firetrucks were finishing their parade route. Waved on, after the last vehicle passed, we rode right by the Brittain's new-to-them house and there wuz David, out in the yard waving to us. Did a quick turn around and pulled into their drive and were encouraged to leave the bikes there with theirs while we walked the block or so to the town square for the Lickskillet gig. Wuz nice seeing both of the Brittain's again - it has been a long time since the RTE in Cameron!!
Got to the town square and saw two LTs parked sidebyside. One turned out to be Dean Liu's beautiful blue LT with the Ft. Worth rack --- the other wuz Stephen and Patricia's silver LT. Made small chat with all parties, then found our way to the food line and grabbed some "Q" and fixin's and had a nice lunch with Dean. Loyce and David were making the vendor rounds, and Stephen and Patricia were doing some window shopping at the town square perimeter shops. After lunch, Dean, Bruce and I wound up in the refurbished City Hall/Judge's chamber/Court House and got a mini-tour of the place, by a very nice docent who happened to be a neighbor of the Brittain's. During the tour, a couple walked in and somehow we got to chatting with them and discovered they were also restoring an older home very close to the Brittain's home AND were members of a British Motorcycle club outta Houston, just returning from a Brit rally in Bandera, and were hauling their restored Norton back home. Seems folks know folks around those parts, and with a population of 261, everyone in Fayetteville knows everyone in Fayettville!! I think we do too, now --- either shook hands, or winked at, or nodded to, or exchanged sides of the walkways with, everyone of 'em. All were real pleasant.
After lunch, Dean had to return to Austin fairly soon, so Bruce and I headed up to the Sterling McCall Automotive Museum in Warrenton. One word - Awesome!!! You gotta go, if you have a passion for vintage/classic/antique autos. He's got a bevy of 'em. Well displayed and with nice write-ups of historical facts, etc. I think we were there a coupla hours.
Split for home after that, with Bruce heading to Marble Falls to meet up with his bro at the motel where they're staying for a coupla dayz/nites; and me and Toad back to Boerne. Great ride; company; food; dessert! And a special thanks to the Brittain's for hosting our bikes in their 'parking slots'. Nice place, David - and I think y'all are gonna like the Fayetteville townsfolks.

Man, I really regret missing that one... and you know how I am about antique cars. Had to pull some horrible duty and lay on the beach at Port A for a few days. Not to mention dinners and the company of Sandar the mag and her fren, Amy. Almost too tough to take.
But... ask Sandy, today I was saying, "They're riding now, they're eating now, they're riding now, they're visiting the museum now, they're riding now..."
Where is my evil twin when I need him most?

Missed ya too, bro - really did. Butt, you know what? There are some more of them "riding now, eating now, riding now, visiting the museum now" days coming up. Since Orsak's wuz closed and we HAD to eat "Q", taters, corn, grin beans, and dessert on the town square - means we'll have to go back when Orsak's is open. Soon!!!
Know you had a good time being a beach bum - you alwayz do. I figger when I get back from KS next week; rob the piggy bank of all the pennies; and cash in a kitchen pass; I'll get to see ya in Houston at the show and check out the suntan!! Y'all got rooms already??

Sheeitzam, I rode through Fayettville, (about 1 p.m.) after leaving the rally in Fredrichsburg. I rode around the square a couple of times, but didn't see a big heard of LT's. I did see a couple of them parked at a house off the square, but didn't know if they were part of the gang.
I didn't know there was a local LT gang in Fayettville. My bad. :(
