I have an iPod Nano that sits in the oddments box. The audio is connected via one of the phono plug outlets on the front of my ComSystem (BC3). The battery life is not that great so I want to be able to charge the Nano while I'm riding. I bought an iPod Nano cigarette lighter power adaptor in hopes that if I cut off the lighter end I could just connect the two leads into one of my fuse blocks. WRONG!

There is a small pc board with numerous components inside the lighter end of the adaptor. I could still use it if there was a way to protect the 1" x 1" pc board. I was thinking about covering it with resin butt before I go an ruin this little feat of electrical engineering I thought I should ask here first. Is resin (or silicone or somthing else) a practical solution?

Is there a better alternative to using the cigarette lighter adaptor. I only have $10 invested in this solution so I'm open to anything at this point.

TIA

Cheers!

Run a Powerlet wiring harness with ring terminals on one end and bare leads on the other. Drill a hole on the side of the oddments tray. Pass through the bare leads. Wire up a cigarette plug to the ends. Plug in.

The bike runs off 12 Vdc, like most vehicles. The spec for USB devices (what the Nano is) is 5 Vdc. So that little circuit board is a voltage reducer. You can wire it to any switched 12Vdc source like Raffy said then just cover it with heat shrink. If you're feeing adventurous, you can remove and disassemble the radio stingray section and hide the circuit board up in there somewhere. Then just leave the USB-shaped plug in the oddments box so you can plug the Nano in.
