My brother and I will be meeting in Scranton PA and will have two full days to ride together (1st time in 22 years) before getting back to reality and a family reunion near Gettysburg PA. We are looking at Route 6 then heading South to South West, cutting East possibly on RTE 70 or come down through State College and head Southeast.

Tentative plan: (3rd week in June)
Tuesday - Meet in Scranton, PA ( We are coming in from NH and Northern VA)
Wednesday (west) and Thursday(east) - about 4-6hrs total riding (stops for nature and touristy things not included)
Friday in Gettysburg in early AM.

Would like to know about any local roads to incorporate in the ride, out of the way nature stuff , where to stay away from (Construction/Heavy Truck routes). Any suggestions for nice places to stay/eat (celebrating his 50th Bday we are going to spend $$$).

Any local knowledge would be appreciated

Taking route 6 west is an OK ride for the time limits you have. You might want to visit the "Little Grand Canyon" in Wellsborough. It's a favorite spot for site seeing.

As you head south you will cross some mountains so the road gets interesting. Traffic is usually light, especially on a week day. If you are unlucky you can get stuck behind a slow moving farm vehicle, but there are passing lanes every so often on this mostly two lane route.

Watch your speed in the Meshoppen area just west of Tunkhannoc. They just reduced the speed due to heavy truck traffic at P&G plant in the valley.

Wait to get to the town of Wellsborough to eat. They have a nice main street lined with old town shops and a few nice dinners. You'll want to check out the town prior to heading out to the canyon.
