Bmw k12 gps fault

Can anyone help? i have a 2000 model origonal gps which appears to switch on (the screen goes a light grey blue colour but will not do anything else. The drive unit in left hand pannier lights up and ejects as it should, but theres no message appears on the screen (built into stereo switching panel on tank top) its not like the modern street pilot type? Any ideas, thanks in anticipation.

I'm afraid very few will have experience with this type of GPS. I believe it was never available to us here 'across the pond'. Hopefully, someone (Meese!) will be able to offer some assistance. In the meanwhile, pics may come in handy if you're able.
