My 2000 K1200 ran fine when I parked it in January. I put a fully charged battery in the bike today and when I complete the connection the starter takes off and will not stop until the battery is disconnected. This is with ignition switch of (or on), kill switch off (or on). Any ideas where I should start? Thanks

welded starter relay..
Try tapping the starter button when you hook up the Battery. (Key on )
This is a know issue on the older bikes.. Time to get a new ( updated ) relay..

The low battery has caused your starter relay to weld together. You might be able to tap on it or hit the starter a few times to try to disengage it.
Scroll down a little bit to the Similar Threads section. There are several thread on this topic.

What they said. It's the starter relay. It is under the gas tank so if you plan on 'tapping it' .......might as well just replace it

negative battery terminal off
turn key on
hold down the starter button
touch the battery terminal to the battery briefly.
with the key off, touch the battery terminal to the battery
If the starter is still going try the above again but if that doesn't fix it replace the relay.
Mine has continued to work the last 3 years after that fix. Don't let that battery get low, or replace the relay now.
