I have a 2000 K1200LT and the CD player skips all the time. I have checked the side bracket bolt and they are not too long. Also checked the V & H to make sure they are right.Still it skips, anyone have any other idea. besides replacing the cd player?!!
Thanks Steve

Factory pressed CDs or home burned, or no difference?

The guts of the player are suspended on four viscous bags that can leak. These are for vibration dampening. They aren't available from BMW, but you may be able to get them from an Alpine repair center or have them replaced there.

I also had the same problem on an '01, and with troubleshooting assistance from the dealer was able to reduce, but not eliminate the skipping problem.
The CD bare unit is "wrapped" in a two piece foam blanket then held in place in the side bag with a sheet metal bracket or cover. If you use your fingers to hold the exposed portion of the CD player (while it is installed in place) and wiggle it up and down you may find, as in my case, that there is some play between the foam blanket and the player. If this is the case cut some thin layers of foam to shim the player inside the blanket so that it is held quite firmly - I used the rolls of honeycomb sticky foam used as drawer liner material. The thought is that the foam blanket should hold the CD player firmly enough so that internal spring suspension setup inside the player can do what it was designed to do- absorb impacts, rather than allowing the entire unit to bounce over bumps. This change improved the tendancy to skip significantly on my bike.
I also found that as the tire pressure was increased to what most of us use (48-50 psi in the rear) the tendancy to skip also increased. As a test try lowering the rear tire pressure to 42psi and check the effect on CD skipping. I am not inferring that this is a better choice, simply that it seemed to reduce the level of skipping for me. The improved handling and tire longevity associated with 48- 50 psi in the rear out-weighed my desire for better quality audio.
