Whilst installing new shocks yesterday I found this ugly oily mess in the picture. This is seen from looking in the right side window of the spoiler in front. Some questions: Is this a sign my clutch is going to get schmegged? Yesterday I got that slipping in the clutch while accelerating in 3-5th gears. I thought this mess up front is maybe just a seal leaking on one of the front covers. I know I have a clutch replacement coming but what is this mess from?

Next time the bike is apart, simply resealing the cover should take care of it.

Not to worry, but you could be replacing the crankshaft seal behind the igniter disc.

DONVery good point, Don! That's a pretty rare source in these motors, but it's certainly possible for oil to migrate over from there to the corner of that flange, then out onto the oil/coolant pump boss.

Clean it up real good, ride it and then see where its coming from. Sometimes hard to tell, wind will blow it in and around the darnest places but start with a good cleaning.

I will clean it up and see if I can determine where its coming from. It isn't much but I'd rather not have it if resealing is all I have to do.
Thanks again.

Wait until you pull your radiators to get at it and see if you still think it's so easy. :)

Clean it up and spray some odee arm deunderant (under arm deoderant) on it. The powder kind. It'll stick and the powder will purdy much pinpoint.
