I'm really liking the new 2006 LT! I have a 2000 LTC it has 46k mi on it, is almost perfect condition, all the farkles, and has no problems......BUT the 2006 looks great, has many refinements and a new bike warranty.

For those of you that have had an older LT and have traded up for a 2005 or 2006 - Was it worth the money? Would you do it again?

You're not going to find many guys that have the cahoonies to say "Nope...it wasn't worth the money.". Of course IT'S NOT WORTH IT! But is that really the question here anyway? If you want one...buy one. If'n you gots the funding for it. Personally, I'm holding on to my '02 until the next new version of LT. Then I'll be signing on the dotted line and starting over. By that time, the '02 will have over 70K or 80K and I'll feel a bit more justified.

I totally agree with Joe. I have spent the last 5 years getting my 2001 LT just perfectly farkled and comfortable and don't feel the need to try to upgrade. I have seen nothing in the new LT's that would excite me to purchase one. I can do without the alarm and linked brakes. I have already upgraded my ride with running lights, Nav system and comm. The bike is paid off and I do all maintenance myself, so any $ I want to spend is on farkles.

The value of worth is based solely on the perception of the purchaser. I partially agree on Joe’s personal opinion “Of course IT'S NOT WORTH IT!”, if you are looking only from a financial standpoint. The real question, as Joe stated, is what does the purchaser really want or at least it should be. It’s like asking how many motorcycles do you really need? Or is it worth buying all the add-ons and gadgets that seem to become obsolete as fast as you install them, due to technical advances. Or simply if you should spend the money and upgrade from a 19 count ballbearing to a 17?

The only time cahoonies enter into this equation is the self-justification to say to yourself, and/or the S.O “I want it, I deserve it, I can afford it and I am going to get it!” Life is way too short and I think most of us work way too hard not to self indulge once in a while. Take care of the family, the 401K and treat yourself once in a while that’s my motto.

I upgraded from a 03LTE to 05LT that has every BMW factory option except CB (had it never used it).

I like:

The additional horsepower.
The improved BMW GPS NAV system.
The improved BMW communication system.
The slight improvement steering (rake changed and the rider sits slightly lower.
The look of the new instrument panel.
The hydraulic centerstand (didn’t think I would).
The keyless lockup (didn’t think I would).
And I have a set of Ohlin’s on it (pulled and rebuilt from the 03), as I am not opposed to saving a buck and maximizing an investment.
As the 05 came with Bridgestone Bias tires it also allowed me to try a tire I would have never used on my own, as I had been a Metzeler devotee for years. It’s strictly Bridgestone Bias from now on.
The value of worth I put on my “passion for motorcycles”, my current ride of choice and my personal happiness “priceless”. What’s your happiness worth and how bad do you want it?

May we never find the end of the road!

At 46 K you barely got to second base with that date.
You have no issues with the bike, "it is almost perfect". So there is no need for a new bike warranty (which is Yiddish or some such, for we didn't get it right and sold the bike anyhoo) So ride that pony and put the new bike payment away every month. Then when they come out with a BETTER bike, you have a large jump on the price.
Just my 2 cents (but you have to give it back for my new better bike fund) as the road rises to meet the rubber of your tire, the pine scent drifts past the smiling corners of your mouth. It doesn't matter what year the bike. What matters is that you have come to trust it to get you to that place, where the smile starts and the BS of everything else falls away.

The 00 is just getting set up the way I want and getting enough scratches that I can relax and enjoy riding it. Anyway, I'm holding out for the new transverse 4, no matter what the dealer says. :)

That 2000 is barely broken in... Save the money for the '08 and ride your 00 for the next two years and put another 46K on it. Then, come back and talk to us. You will be glad that you did in '08..

After all, the '08 will probably have all the features of the '06 plus alot more horsepower, lighter weight (I bet) and even more I am sure. Yes, it will most probably cost more, but, even if you don't like it as much as even the '07, think about how much you will save, you could still get a bike ('07) with warranty and option to purchase extended warranty buying it second hand for even less money. And of course the '07 will have more then even the '06 and even cost less then the '06 was new.

Quite frankly, it really isn't as if your current bike is really that shabby (it is only the best touring bike on the road, right???).

Ride it and don't think about the model year. If you buy the '06 now, it won't be new in '08 and you will start all over again wanting an '08 then..

I can't imagine wanting to give up my '03 for anything. But who knows what the new model will bring.... I definately don't want to give it up for an '06.

If you feel the pang for something new, buy a new farkle. Ride your bike like it is new, clean it, wax it and admire it... There are more then a few good years left on that baby..

I know someone that would love to have your bike but simply can't afford it.

I can get you that 06 cheap, send me $995.00 and your current reg card.
I'll white out the zero and put in a 6 then mail it back, or you can just save the money and do it yourself.
Get to work on that air-ram waving device. :D
